First I don't know why 75,000 subscribers is surprising to you. I have lived in Japan, visited Japan for the last 4 years, I have a trip coming up and still find all of your videos useful.
The only suggestion I would give people is have one day of no planning and just walk out the door and see what you see. Eat when you are hungry at a little stand(sometimes the best food in the area) not a big meal just a little of this and that. Finally stay away from some of the Instagram sites, there is so much beauty everywhere there is no reason to have the same picture 30,000 people already have on their Instagram.
Thank you for another useful video.

Been Japan 29 times since the good old days from 2013...Japan is easy and convenient place to visit... Don't worry too much just relax take it easy be in the moment instead rushing through to accomplish your itinerary

I'm coming to the end of my first trip and it's been absolutely wonderful. A couple of tips from my experience.
Plan a rest day, your body will absolutely thank you. Take it easy on this day, wake up late explore around your hotel later in the afternoon.
Pick 1 or 2 activities per day. You'll have a better time wandering around without a time constraint and you'll often find hidden surprises.
Be flexible. I can't tell you the amount of times I've missed my bus stop and ended up in the wrong direction.
Save your feet! Take a bus, train or taxi whenever possible. You're going to be on your feet much more than you expect.

Abby, this is one of the greatest videos about Japan travel I've seen in the sea of other videos. I only wish I watched it sooner! Haha

Congrats on 75k!! 🎉🎉

This is such a thoughtful and helpful video!!! I’ve done two recent trips to Japan but they were completely opposite ends of the spectrum but I enjoyed them both. One was 14 days and only in Tokyo (honestly it could have been 2 months and I’d still have loved it) and the other was 14 days and I zoomed through Tokyo, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Nagasaki, and Kyoto and it was a total whirlwind (but I knew that going in). So, you can totally do anything but you are absolutely correct, Shinkansen travel time is not the same as the actual place to place transfer time.  Pick a couple of main bases and transfer hotels as little as possible, relax, and enjoy.  It’s supposed to be a vacation and not a checklist lol.  Take time for coffees, many many coffees 🙂👍

Thank you! I wore myself out on my trip last November. I am going back next year to get it "right." Your tips, most of which i discovered the hard way, will help.

Thank you!  Your advice about the time it actually takes to move from one location/hotel to another (rather than just looking at the time on the train) has made us rethink some of our plans, which should give us a better experience.  Much appreciated (going to Tokyo/Osaka in November BTW)

Solid!  This is almost exactly what I tell anyone who asks me about visiting.  Now I can direct them to this video instead of making them listen to me drone on about it.  Plus, they can rewind on the video.  Hehe. 😛

The first time I went to Japan I watched so many of your videos, that's why I was able to visit all the nice places at Nara, Kyoto and Tokyo. Now I'm going for the second time and I still find your videos so useful. This time I'm going to Tokyo, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Kanazawa and back to Tokyo and I already watched your videos about Hiroshima and Kanazawa! Thanks!!

I’m going to Japan in 1 week, it’s my first time and really excited and nervous. Thank you Abby you’re videos are extremely helpful!!

Excellent tips as always, and I always try to make sure I have enough time to do the activities that mean the most to me during my trip. Also, yes distance is also transferring between stations is absolutely a factor as well. I did not do the traditional golden route when I went to Japan, but mostly went off the beaten path such as various spots in the Chiba prefecture (not Tokyo Disneyland nor Tokyo Seaworld).

Going soon for my third trip (each lasting around a month), and once again, staying in Tokyo, traveling from Toronto. There is so much to see and do in greater Tokyo alone, and occasionally  a couple of my Japanese friends will want to take me to places like Mt. Fuji, Mt. Nokogiri, etc., for the day, or I'll see some friends' bands in clubs, and so forth. If I don't have any particular plans on some days, it's interesting enough just walking around Shinjuku (where I stay), or visit Shibuya, etc. But you are right- it is good to relax and take it easy sometimes! I'm so used to continually moving, but my feet won't listen to me- even if I'm hungry!😅

Well after a year of watching your videos I think I’ve come up with a decent itinerary! We arrive at KIX November 1. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks Abby! Really like that you're encouraging people to reframe the way people approach their trip in Japan. Honestly, when I see the itineraries that some people post on like the FB forums,  it's like... GOOD LUCK! I'm glad I never had kids, and I don't really care about those TOP 10 MUST DO THINGS. Aside from the practical research and planning, I was glad to find videos on "retro" neighborhoods. Sky Tree? That's nice, but I'm far more interested in the Tokyo Tower. Also while I'm not really into crowds - I'm still going to go - and I am probably a lot more used to depending on public transportation than a lot of tourists because I don't own a car and never have...  Looking forward to Tokyo, Kanazawa, Sasebo, and Kyoto in 2027.

Great advice on the door to door time. We've been doing 4 to 5 week trips in our late 60s. Adopted the slow travel mindset and realizing it takes more time than you think to get around has made our trips much more enjoyable to not try and over do it.  Love your direct and to the point videos. We always assume a transfer day is a full day and any stop is a bonus.

I always plan my trips around the things I absolutely want to see places, matsuri, hanabi, or sakura, and so on. Then I check to see if there are any special festivals happening during my travel dates. After that, I estimate how many days I’ll need at each location and decide whether I should swap out one or two places based on the travel dates.
My first trip in 20215 was Kagoshima, Yakushima, Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Kyoto, Koyasan, Nara, Fujikawaguchiko, Matsumoto, Tokyo ans Nagoya. All in 5 weeks with day trips to Iwakuni, Himeji, Ise, Alps Route, Nagano, Nikko, Kamakura, Yoshino and Miho-Museum. First time alone and it was the best trip ever.

This is SUCH good advice that the average person does not think of. 10/10

Congratulations on 75k🎉 Your videos are both enlightening and entertaining. ❤
