its really hard for me to criticize this movie lol
the only thing holding it back is that im pretty sure zack wrote it more or less on his own, yet the real life situation with his daughter is hard to ignore since the movie is essentially a dad trying to stop his daughter from going on a suicide mission. he’s focused on this pointless task of bringing a group of badasses together (like filming the dceu) while his daughter is suffering alone..i personally create from real life and i know the stories that resonate best are the ones that relatable and often based on some element of truth..i can understand why he wouldnt want to make a melodrama out of it but instead have the father die in the daughters place in an otherwise fun flick.. i hope if any of his pain was incorporated into the story he found some amount of catharsis despite the criticism the movie gets(deserved or not)

With love, that is basically the first Blade Runner. I love that movie, but on a script level, he's a pretty crummy detective, a lot of confusing stuff happened off screen and he pretty randomly just shows up for the 3rd act.
I think the difference is that it's much more enticing with its world and creates a rich, dreamlike atmosphere to luxuriate in, which is very important to a movie obsessed with dreams. Army Of The Dead just has a few zombies that are robots when they get shot. I honestly didn't even notice it. Blade Runner has a whole guy who makes robot eyes, and he's a weird guy in a refrigerated building, that's leading me forward.

I remember watching this movie while i was donating platelets. I had to sit there for like 2 hours all hooked up to the apheresis machine. I couldnt change the movie because i was scared i would fuck up the tubes in my arm.

One of the digital cameras they used to film Army of the Dead has a dead pixel. Somehow made it into the final cut. So you can always tell when they use that camera. Very distracting. Can't believe they didn't notice.

1 hour and 12 minutes and not a single mention of the fact the movie hints at the very start that the Zombie virus is potentially alien and then it’s never brought up ever again. Or the fact that Snyder once again used the ‘hey look it’s a Jesus’ metaphor in yet another movie. Or that the opening credits go for far too long, we didn’t need the whole song and it makes your movie feel like a slog from the very beginning. I could go on for hours about how much this movie sucks

Based on all I've read about the guy, Zach Snyder seems like a decent guy who really likes Ayn Rand on a very surface level, doesn't understand how fucked her ideology is, and cannot make a good movie for shit.
