the early 80s casuals were the proper face of Mod revival

I was a second generation mod but I used to like punk rock and 60s garage music I had heavy rocker freinds skinhead freinds rockabilly freinds couldn't be arsed with anymosity good times

Quadrophenia was the reason there was a mod revival coinciding with The Jams all mod cons, everything else followed on from there, secret affair, the chords, Purple Hearts, Merton parkas, the lambrettas, nine below zero, etc etc.., the best time of my life I was obsessed with all of it…

ah great to see and hear John  Entwistle, He was the Best Rock Bass player i've ever heard

The 2nd generation of the Mods is down totally to Quadrophenia.

Weller was the catalyst that ignited interest in Mod thats undeniable.

RIP Tony Morrison of Long Tall Shorty. Really sweet guy - had a long chat with him when they were regularly playing The Marquee and he told me a great story about Paul Weller which I couldn't possibly repeat...

Saw the Who in 76 ,thought they were fantastic, their music stage prescence was amazing.I am a 77year old mod and proud of it 😊

my family went to the UK in 1979 (my mum is from St Hellens, merseyside) and there were all these kids running around in parkas with targets and union jacks on them, i was like; What the fuck is this all about, eventually after returning to Australia i saw adds for Quadrophenia, but it was when i first heard the Jam  (Start !) that it all started making sense to me, they released an EP inAust called  4 side affects, which had , Start,Going underground ,eton rifles, and Thats entertainment) and my mind was blown, for the next few years i was obsessed with Mod.

The mod revival started before quad came out

Good to see Brett B. Buddlesworth there, lead skiffle-rattler and flugelhorn player of The Chords.  Some say his ghost still haunts some of the old venues around London....

Love the ox great to see him

Fuck me, a documentary about MOD in the late 70s thaf actually mentions Weller and The Jam!

The jam in the city

We need a new re re re revival

This is quite good.  Describes and documents the scene of my student days in Brighton.

This is quite controversial. I was a mod in the late ’70s and early ’80s. I identified with Motown music and Lambrettas. The girls looked fantastic in miniskirts and ski pants too. The alternatives were punk or rockers, neither of which ticked my cool box.

Some of the revival bands were OK, such as The Jam and Secret Affair, but my record collection leaned more towards The Kinks, The Kingsmen, and most of the music aired on the RSG TV programme. There were also mods who jumped on the bandwagon and applauded anything remotely commercial with a mod label. They often wore plastic suits from Carnaby Street—hence the term “plastic mod.”

By ’83, commercialisation had become so rampant that I felt the whole mod scene had been lost and cheapened. That’s when I ditched the parka and suit, cut back my Lambretta, got a psychobilly haircut, and became a scooter boy.

When i first saw  Quadrophenia on release,i was very critical on a lot of the scenes i.e. 1970s cars driving down the st, mods with long hair other things to numerous to mention.
But overall being a relatively low budget film, i though they did a great job, the London dialogue was excellent and i still love this film.
