Field tested and genuinely super-useful... if I do say so myself.

Jesus, watching this video almost moved me to tears, that really doesn't happen very often

Absolutely love mine! Has been halfway around the world and still looks like new. Surprisingly strong ball head. Great video!

Timely video Jack. I've actually been looking at this as I need to replace my too flimsy travel tripod. I think I'll go for it.

Tripods are one of those bits of kit you ideally would try before you buy but its not that simple! Against my frugal nature, the best purchase I ever made was for an used Manfrotto CXPRO3 with a Gitzo Ball head converted to an Arca Plate (join the Arca side Jack). And it makes a world of difference having a tripod that works for you.

Thanks for covering the Ulanzi , it really looks well designed. Perhaps if they made it a tad heftier with a Flowtech like drop leg system, I'd be sold.

I was looking at this one recently, looks awesome. Think it would be great with a fluid head

Greetings, fellow tripod-obsessed photographer! First may I say that as a landscape photographer doing panorama work, among other things, I was frankly amazed by success and popularity of the first iteration of the PD tripod, because it had no way to make a level horizontal pan!! I believe they corrected that omission in iteration 2. As for the Falcam, while it appears well done, my favorite travel tripod is as follows…the FLM "CP26 Travel Tripod". It has super-strong 10x Carbon Fiber legs (26 lb load capacity!) with well-made twist locks, and a ball head that has several unique features that I've not seen in my 35 years of photography using tripods...For example, the "Pan" function permits butter-smooth normal panning, but in addition, adds a 15-degree ratchet function that is fantastic for us landscape/panorama photographers! There is also a "Tilt" knob that locks the ball head so that only one vertical/up/down plane is available. And finally, there is a "lock" function that locks the ball head from panning/turning, so that it can easily be unscrewed and/or mounted solidly. The kit comes with very well-made screw-on metal spikes, and folds up to a compact 15.5" for travel. Quite ingenious and precision design overall, and highly recommended for travel!!  Bottom line: This FLM tripod simply exudes Quality. Here's the link to that awesome tripod: http://www.flmcanada.com. Please tell Ari that Steve sent you. Thanks, and I think you'll find the FLM CP26 Travel Tripod perfect for Panoramic (and all) photography!

Great review. This is the most technical breakdown of the TreeRoot on YouTube 👏

I just wish you had shown how difficult it is to adjust the height with a heavy rig mounted. I own another Ulanzi/Falcam video tripod that fails in this area, forcing me to completely detach the rig just to make a height adjustment.

I would def reach out to Falcam and ask about the F50 quick release plates. Rock solid for 501 Manfrotto setups.

I use them everywhere!

There are some good 501 side load clamps that snap to a semi locked position. Falcam F50 QR clamp and plate are one of the better ones.
Personally though I have never really been happy with 501 even when it is a side load. I have been meaning to shift over to everything on a "touch and go" QR system for years as it would give me way more peace of mind. As I have had too many generic 3rd party 501 plates slip slightly even when clamped down, just because the plate dimensions are slightly smaller and out of tollerance.

Yes sticks.  I sold my Manfrotto 509 with a 526 head a few years ago as I sold the camera it was paired with but I have a cheap K&F pair of sticks which I'm eh! with but I still have my Benbow tripod an original Kennett Engineering one, which must be 35 years old and able to ward off charging bulls.  It's revolutionary design all those years ago, still makes me put it in the back of the car for stills work in the great outdoors and it's loved although I must get a fluid head for it.  Nice sticks review though Jack.

Agreed the camera support obsession is a thing :)  Ulanzi makes great stuff!

Nice video, thanks for making the review!
What adapter are you using for your Manfrotto plate?

My TreeRoot’s internal components in the legs shattered in the cold. Just because of the cold.  It’s a fantastic tripod but even if I replaced it, it wouldn’t solve the major issue i had with it.  If the rig wasn’t perfectly balanced the ball head would give. Like an Atlas Mercury on the ZR.  Perfectly balanced it holds a lot.  I ended up replacing it with the new Peak Design Pro Lite which is a major upgrade from the original. It holds that rig with no issues and feels far more stable than my treeroot. BUT its center column is the worst out there and immensely frustrating when trying to go low to ground. Great video homie.

Have you tried any fluid heads with this tripod?

there are 3 models of the treeroot, which one is thie one in the video?

Not me taking my Sachtler Activ8 on every job with 98% of them being travel jobs haha

Hi Jack, sorry for all the questions - and yet I have another! 🙂 What is the black VND with red accents you are using on the Sony lens here? (at video index 7:13) ?

Omg Jack! Can you please relay the bits that make up this ingenious portable rolling light-stand based slider stand? (it''s at 9:05 ) ?  Please please please? (How did I gloss over this at first?) 🙂

I like the guy at 5.54.
