Vampire Diaries annoys me to this day. Elena was literally the most boring character in the whole show, and the show insisted on hating on Bonnie at every turn, and she was literally carrying everyone on her back 🙄

How do I explain that the Sydney and Carmy hug in the bear was equivalent to the insane amount of tension between Bonnie and Damon when they hugged, how do u look at some shit like that and say it’s not love like.. 🫩

I'm SO with you about Carmy and Syd. I have had multiple arguments about this! People are forever saying getting them together would have undermined the show's focus--it wasn't about dating/romance, it was about the work and found family and following your dreams blah blah blah. Meanwhile, Carmy had a relationship, Tina was married with children, Richie was divorced and ends up dating the woman from the other restaurant, Sugar is happily married, even one of the Faks ends up dating somebody. But when it comes to Syd, her having a love life and being a realistic love interest for Carmy would just be out of the question? And I don't accept him being too messed up mentally as an excuse since they didn't seem to think it was a problem when he got with Claire. I have no choice but to conclude they had an issue with it and could only see them as platonic because Ayo is Black. And that makes me extra annoyed with the writers because fine, if you're going to make them a platonic pairing, then why put them in romantic scenarios like the table scene? Why have Carmy have panic attacks and only calm down when he thinks about Syd? Why have their lives and work parallel in such lovely ways just to have it amount to nothing? I maintain that if Syd had been played by a white actress, suddenly the idea of her and Carmy getting together wouldn't have gotten so much pushback. It's too bad, because I had a whole alternate ending for the show written out in my head where they end up together, and I still think it would have been great and would not have taken anything away from the focus on food.

Bonnie and Damon were absolutely the right choice but Julie Plec robbed us so many times of good couples but they kept wanting Elena and Damon to work even after the actors were sick and tired of them. Also, don’t get me going about Blair and Dan because I absolutely hate how they made their friendship make SO much sense and they made Dan to actually seem to love her deeply  just to ruin the relationship in a few episodes just for fan service. I am still upset..

There is something called the second- lead syndrome ( in every K-drama you know who is the male lead but they always have a second lead for “competition” or drama, the syndrome is when the fans prefer the second lead to be with the female lead), I usually don’t experience it but when I do is basically because the K-drama writers have no idea of what women actually would like in a man or they refuse to see that healthy relantionships are Interesting, also most of the time they don’t know the difference between friendships and romance. So yeah….The Bear and the Pitt re-opened wounds for me.

20:06 i think you're dead on about the misogyny being a reason why relationships are underdeveloped in shows.  I think men genuinely don't understand what women find entertaining in relationship dynamics so they just write for themselves and get confused when they like other things they wrote without paying attention to.

White women (I'll dare say MOST), do NOT like a black woman being shipped with a popular white guy!! The bear, if she had been white, they'd be SHIPPING like crazy, but because she's black, they were fighting for their life arguing that they were better as friends.
