🎬 ABOUT THIS DOCUMENTARY
In this documentary, we explore the construction of Cahora Bassa and Operation Fronteira, seeking to understand the context, events, and consequences of one of the most significant episodes in our history.
In 1969, Portugal signed the largest engineering contract in its colonial history: the construction of the Cahora Bassa dam on the Zambezi River, in the Tete district of Mozambique. A 2,075-megawatt project. A 1,414-kilometer transmission line to South Africa. And a plan to settle one million European colonists in the Zambezi Valley, making the Portuguese presence in Africa demographically irreversible.
On the other side of the border, Samora Machel, President of FRELIMO since May 1970, issued his directive: "Cahora Bassa is a crime that must never be completed."
And so began one of the wars within the war, the five-year confrontation between the Portuguese Iron Ring and the FRELIMO guerrillas for control of the Zambezi River.
Through historical documentation, testimonies, photographs, archives, and other available sources, we seek to reconstruct these events with rigor and respect for the memory of those who lived through them.
