My First EVER Reaction to Forrest Gump (1994)

Movie Summary:

Slow-witted Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks) has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother (Sally Field), he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save -- his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny (Robin Wright).

Forrest was in college during the segregated 60's. He meets his son in the beginning of the 80's.

the scene where nixon was resigning after Forrest called and management at the hotel was the start of the Watergate scandal, and Nixon resigned rather than be impeached

11:14 Desegregation began in the early 60s when Forrest was in college. When he's sitting on the park bench waiting for the bus, its 1981. When he's telling a story, its earlier than that. He takes us through a ton of major milestones in American history throughout the second half of the 20th century lol.

This movie takes place more than in the 1980's its a good portion of Forest gump's life. You can tell this by past presidents, events (Vietnam war, water gate scandal), the film going from color to black and white, then back to color 11:42

When he is with John Lenon, listen to what JL said ..."and no religion too"... thats the lyrics for his futur HUGE song... "Imagine". Forest even inspired JL 😊

Both Jenny and Forrest were running away from their emotional pain. Jenny experienced the worst emotional pain in her life during her childhood. So everything associated with her childhood, including Forrest, would subconsciously trigger those feelings of emotional pain all over again. It would overwhelm her with a feeling of impending doom. An insecure feeling that she had to escape. That's why she could never stay with him for very long. Forrest ran to get away from the feelings of heartbreak that Jenny left him with. Feelings of love scared Jenny. She associated love with pain because of the trauma she endured with her father. That's why she kept hooking up with unlovable guys. She was always afraid of the genuine love she knew she would feel for Forrest. The birds flying back to their tree symbolized that Jenny was finally at peace. She finally worked it out in her mind, how to feel her love for Forrest without the associated pain.

This is such a great movie because it triggers all emotions like empathy, joy, anger, and sorrow. There aren’t too many movies that can do that. That’s why this is my favorite movie

46:32 - This scene broke my heart. It's the only time we see Forrest acknowledge his neuro divergence and the fact he's been made to believe it's a flaw

Actor, Gary Sinise, who portrays Lt. Dan in this film, is also known for his role in the film, "Apollo 13" (1995), and for his role as, Detective Mac Taylor, on the TV show, "CSI: NY".

Some more 90’s movies that are wholesome and great are “Jerry Maguire”, and “Good Will Hunting” and “Finding Forrester”

"Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. Dey's uh, shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that's about it." -Bubba 🦐

That Gump house was not the same house used in The Notebook. The Gump family home was specially constructed for filming at Bluff Plantation in Yemassee, South Carolina. After filming wrapped, it was torn down.

The child actor who played Forrest Jr was Haley Joel Osment, who was a stunning child actor that really didnt make the transition to Adulthood, but he was also in the 6th sense

Very nicely done reaction and it seemed you did not blame Jenny for her life journey, while most of the other reactors always judged her in some form. I believe Jenny gave Forrest his destiny in being little Forrest’s dad🎉🎉❤❤❤

Fun Fact, Country star George Strait was presented a song Blue Clear Sky to record he liked the song but wanted to change it to Clear Blue Sky the correct wording to the phrase but the writer said he must not be Gumpster so George agreed to the name after watching the movie It became #1 song! 💙🤠✌️

This masterpiece is timeless. It hits home hard every time, our Mom looked exactly like Sally Field in this when we were kids . I sincerely cried when she died, I can't lie. That's all I have to say about that...Some think Jenny is a villain in this but she's just a victim. Tom Hanks is absolutely brilliant, even when playing a local idiot. When Forrest asks "is he smart?" Breaks my heart. One of the most clever, heartfelt films ever...

Cool fact about Elvis in the film is that Kurt Russell did the voice which is cool because 1. He actually played him in the 1979 TV movie biopic which was directed by John Carpenter who had directed Halloween the previous year and went on to direct The Fog, The Thing, Big Trouble In Little China and They Live, and 2. Is that one of Russell’s earliest film roles was as a kid in which he starred in one of Elvis’ movies in the early 1960s
