As a native of Maine, I can confirm. People who come to Maine don’t return without some sort of supernatural trauma. Stephen King is actually trying to warn people not to come, but they’re too thrilled by the prospect of lobsters, red hot dogs and snow in April.
Is this some kind of dark comedy? An old man's neighbour buys him a new TV and the man's so old fashioned he's shocked by HD, has a heart attack and dies.
Where I thought the story would go was that the widower somehow got sucked up and trapped within the television world by some evil and mysterious force, akin to Rez from the Gex The Gecko games, and the guys that secretly installed the HD TV would try to get him out of there to no avail.
Obviously that concept sounds incredibly cheesy and stupid, but at least that would’ve been far more interesting and enthralling than just “the man’s death sounded like it had no reason”.
I thought it was going to turn out that his wife had been talking to him through the tv and when they upgraded she couldn’t speak to him anymore. Or God killed him or something like that
Less than five minutes in: oh, this spoopy story not only hinges on the 2009 switch to digital television, but they also misunderstand the basic premise of what the switch was about. Still not the fastest one of these stories has completely shit the bed, but it's a pretty honorable mention.
the thought of somebody breaking into my house and installing devices and paid services without my knowledge is creepier than an old guy dying because the resolution is too high
My theory is that an extra spooky skeleton jumped out of the HD TV and killed Old Man Limit Breaker who then became skeleton and wrote this story. Trust me my dad works for LOL Skeletons. Also the extra spooky skeleton was realistic in a hyper way and had hyper realistic red and black eyes crying 666 litres of hyper realistic Vicks Vaporub.
