What is your favorite video game remake?

as long as its not another skyrim... again.

I think my beef with remakes is mostly just with Resident Evil, specifically 2 (and 3, but that's like beating a dead horse at this point 😅).
I remember being so hyped when they finally announced REmake 2 in 2015. I initially had fun with the game when i finally got my hands on it. But when i started the "2nd run" is whenever everything kinda fell apart for me.
In the original game, that B Scenario was basically 50% of the game, yet it was seemingly cut for a streamlined version of the first run. I don't think that would've been a terrible choice, had they bothered to at least connect the standard Claire and Leon stories. That dual perspective was the soul of the game, at least imo.
I think that's why REmake 1 really worked. The changes that were made were additions to the original. Outside of the cheese, nothing was really cut out.
I just wished Capcom had spent less time making their team look at real cadavers and more time at least locking down the fundamental parts of the original RE2 😅.

All that said, REmake 2 is still a good game in isolation. It just hurts my soul, lol. And also banger video! ❤

dude this channel is so underrated

Thank you for this masterpiece of a video

I love your videos man❤️ great work.

This reminds of one Silent Hill 2 review made by a reviewer whose a big retro gamer, and defends old school mechanics. And honestly what stood out to me wasn't even comparing the gameplay but saying "I don't care about stories in games", which not only is ironic cause he used "game's are art" defence, but also he talk about Silent Hill 2. A game whose most defining and memroable aspect is it's story.

We gotta hype this y’all

I always saw remakes as sharing the story with a new generation with enough of the old stuff to keep the old fans on it

I really disagree with the idea that we need remakes so young people can get into old games. If someone is interested they'll find a way. I know because I put time into learning controls for PS1 games.
I am 21and I activity seek older games like system shock, nightmare creatures, ultima, Blood etc. I had trouble getting the controls but I wanted to experience them so I learnt.
All a remake does to those people is give out this sense of "if I wait long enough, I'll get a remake"
I've friends who would never play anything stylistic or older than PS4 just because we got into gaming in 2022. They'd compare a game to rdr2 to determine if it's good or not. Which I find stupid.

I take offense in saying video games age so it's okay to remake them so modern people can experience them.
If we use that same logic. Books also age because of the language difference. I'm not a native english speaker so I find it really difficult to read old books like neuromancer, shakespeare, Frankenstein's Monster most of lovecraft stories. I'd eventually learn more about language to read them without problem.
But wouldn't it be better if they just remade the books with modern slangs and writing.

Gatekeeping is good, it keeps people who only want to change the media not experience it out of the community. If someone is really intrested devil may cry they'll play the games and talk to people about what they liked and didn't like. Not to on and on about how they need the modern controls, camera and graphics to really get into it.

In my personal opinion we need to focus on making older games more readily available than to make remakes. If a company is no longer selling a software it should be classified as abandoned and be free to public.

People should understand If you can't get into something it's probably not for you. I never understood GTA and after trying time and time again I just accepted this series which is considered the best game ever isn't for me. Just because something is popular and being hyped doesn't mean you'll like it.

Defending video game remakes? Who would do such a thing! Couldn't be me...

DOMINION MENTIONED LET'S GOOOOOOO

Just wanted to say you are perhaps the most cogent Youtuber going. Also, I'm reallynot sure about remakes, some I like, some not so much. If the spirit is right then the game will follow, e.g. Total Chaos, if it's clearly a cash grab then it's clearly not. Thanks Sputnik & keep them coming mate

Remakes are so nuanced for me. I'm always cautious because on one hand, I did not like the FF7 remake at all because of the deviations they made but thought the Demon's Souls remake was amazing. I always have to go do my homework before committing to buying a remake 😂

I wish I could experience disco Elysium for the first time all over again (but no remake please, that one is a special case lmao)

Hate to see the gaming snobs turn up their noses at a thoughtfully made remake. Let the kids enjoy it! don't make 'em walk uphill in the snow both ways

Honestly, what I want to see is games, like Turok: Evolution and Glover, that had good pieces that were fumbled because of poor decision and/or strict deadlines/changes in technology. Games that I think had a lot of potential and I want to see them meet said potential.

You're damn right

while i am tired of remakes overall, i agree with what you stated. It is funny to me that the people who get upset over remakes, you can just ignore them. maybe that's easy for me to say cause most remakes you've talked about i have no emotional connection to. In any case, while i do think making new "original" games such always take priority. as you say, remakes have their place.

"stage types for stories" isnt a gr8 either but i like it more than story dimentions

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter is one of the greatest videogame remakes I've ever seen. It is extremely faithful to the original, and brings the visuals and combat of 2004's Sky FC closer to the modern games. The original is so vastly different from how things are in the series now. Like you said, it's perfect for new players trying to get into the series.

At this point, people who started the series with the remake will still have to play the 2nd-5th games in the series with the old gamestyle until they remake them. But Sky 2nd Chapter is coming out in the Fall!
