I had an aphid infestation in a young peach tree. I've put a glue barrier around the base of the trunk so that the ants who protect them can't climb up. The aphids were left defenseless so the ladybugs came and ate them in a matter of a few days. Now the tree is recovering fine.
I had this problem when all I had was leafy greens growing by themselves. Their explosive growth invited aphids. Then the ladybugs came, which helped. I then realised that I was not cutting the leaves to reduce the dense and explosive growth. I started cutting the leaves for my consumption. I gave the excess to neighbours and my chickens. The plants then had more air circulating, which reduced the aphids. Some birds started feeding on them too. I then started putting plants with strong scent production capability around the leafy greens. Since then there are next to no aphids around my leafy greens. I added a lot of compost in my gardens, so the scent producing plants grew quickly using the compost.
I have also tried all kind of organic pest treatments on my Bangkok permaculture farm without success. The only way to manage them is diversity and smart guilds around the fruit trees, which in return also makes them strong and healthy.
All you need to do is buy dehydrated garlic in the spice isle of the grocery store, pour it into a pot of water, bring to a boil, let it sit overnight, pour the garlic water in a spray bottle and spray your fruit trees with the garlic water. You can thank me later.
Aphids are always a sign of too much nitrogen or poor soil. I never add nitrogen to my soil and only get aphids on my tamarilo because birds always sit on the fence beside it and their droppings contain too much nitrogen in the one spot. I have planted greens under the tree to try to use the extra nitrogen but they get attacked by aphids to. I just need to add more carbon, often to hold up the nitrogen and then I don't get aphids
Hello friend I am watching your channel for long time and I am not sure if I ever commented on your videos but I do admire your honest and straightforward approach to address the issue in your videos. In this video I have a bit of different views. My opinion is why aphids come in the first place not because they love the tender delicious food but they come as pest which is the lower category of pests which suggest that your plants are not strong enough to fight back what I mean that if you heard about BRIX and as per that plants gets affected by aphids if the plants have lower BRIX levels of sugar in there leaves which is lack of photosynthesis and proper food for plants which is supplied by right kind of microorganisms in soil. As the BRIX levels of your plants increase your problem of aphids will be gone and if you can get BRIX up to 13 then your plants are objectively healthy and fruits will be much tastier and at this time you can even compare your fruits BRIX levels of now and after all the right things you do which will be proven to you by having no aphids and higher key of pests in your garden or orchard. Keep up the good work.
