As Croatia face England in the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final in Moscow, UEFA.tv look back on the first and only meeting of the two nations at a major tournament.

The Three Lions triumphed 4-2 over Croatia at the group stage of Euro 2004. A Wayne Rooney brace and goals from Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard were enough to see off Croatian goals from Niko Kovač and Igor Tudor.

This had to be the best England team of all time....on paper! How they could not win anything baffles me.

Scholes just bossing the midfiled. Absolutely love it.

Rooney at 18. Was there ever a better English player than that? No fear, just raw talent. Insane attacking midfield.

Beckham, Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Scholes, Owen, A.Cole, Terry and Ferdinand. This team was ridiculous on paper.

David James spent most of his career stood with his hands on his hips & with a look of bewilderment on his face, can't believe he was our No. 1 for a long while

I know everyone talks about Rooney in this match/tournament, but bloody hell Lampard was playing well. That chip over the Croatia midfielder to get Rooney immediately on the front foot in the build up to England's third was delightful.

What an English team. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Omg they didn't win but a pleasure watching them all together

Damn. England had 10 world class outfield players. Unreal. ''Baby'' Wayne Ronney was virtually unplayable in the tournament. WHY did he have to get injured WWWHHHYYYY !
