13:05 italy wasn’t a thing yet that was a bunch of different little countries in what would become italy

@TheCruxy 3 days ago

Napoleon next would be logical

@jacobsheber6803 2 days ago

Dethroneing the king was good, killing the king was not necessary and it just shows that power can corrupt anyone, no matter how you start out

Woah more oversimplified lets gooo. Your gonna like the napoleon wars one

The way the Jacobins tried Marie Antoinette was especially cruel. They leveled every possible accusation against her from treason to overspending (even though Louis spent more than she did). The worst one was the false accusation that she had an incestuous relationship with her young son, which they got a signed confession from him by beating and starving him into submission. Marie, of course, denied this and even led the public to turn against the prosecutors. They decided to drop the incest charge but everything else still stuck.

Thermidorian just comes from one of the months in the revolutionary calendar, it’s when the moderates gained power back. Thermidor

1:28 o explain this is an old tradition where a family member/s or a trusted aide watch from the side to ensure that the woman is a virgin and to check the sheets for the evidence of a virgin. Also they don't actually watch them like creeps or in a cuckhold chair, the bed has a canopy aka the curtain thingy on the frame to cover the entire bed while the newlyweds spend their first time.

French here. This video is... very accurate!
It is oversimplified. Louis the 16th was a good man, with the worst position.
Detail are foogy, but the French debt was so severe that when Napoleon took power it was the last time France canceled it.
Ruining the upper class at the time.
Yet by the middle of the 19th century, France had one of the wealthiest upper class in the world.
Half a centuary later

5:43 to explain, King Louis have a condition with his foreskin that made it painful when his "manhood" is erected, this was solved later in his reign when he had surgery but by then, the damage was done

Italy and Germany weren't unified yet. (It was actually Napoleon's conquests that inspired the nationalist movements in both countries later in the 1800s). Italy was made up of the Kingdom of Sardenia-Piedmont, the Republic of Genoa, the Republic of Venice, Lombardy (under Austrian rule), the Papal States, the Duchy of Florence, and the Kingdoms of Naples and Sicily. Germany, outside of territories under Prussian or Austrian rule, was made up of the Kingdom of Bavaria, the Kingdom of Saxony, the Principality of Hesse, the Grand Duchy of Wurttemberg, the Electorate of Hanover (ruled by the King of England oddly enough), the Hanseatic League, and Mecklenberg-Strelit (under Swedish rule).

Es verdad; el sitio web oficial del palacio de Versailles dice que los huéspedes si vieron a Luis y Marie ir à la cama juntos.

17:43 by the way the famous: "Let them eat cake" by the queen is actually false and made up to slander her. But it serves to show how detached from reality the upperclass are.

@GaribaldiRetrous 4 hours ago

Yeah nothing is as "low key based" as killing hundreds of thousands of people for your abstract ideas of equality and liberty

20:42 by the way, the escape was not hasty or secretive as anyone imagined, it was the opposite. The royal family treated it leisurely, like its a normal everyday trip, taking their sweet time, and when the carriage wheel broke, they even stopped and chatted with a few people while it was getting fixed!

Uh Italy wasn’t a unified country yet… so those aren’t provinces…

@Kaiser_von_Europa 7 hours ago

13:06 to explain italy wasn't unified till 1861 but didn't complete its core territorial unification till 1871. And these are the states that created italy and they identified themselves more with their state then some national dentity like "Italy"/"italian". Same with the Germans in the Holy Roman Empire before germany was created in 1871
