8:17 fun fact. Chariots were widely considered unfair pay to win bullshit at the time.

Isn't regular soup just complicated chemical soup, though? 🌏

24:08 As a big history buff, I called World War 1, the War to Cause All Modern Wars.

ok so this has been burning on my mind for years but:
if chad means lake does that mean an ocean is a giga chad?

I'm so glad to have been able to catch this one live! Bill Wurtz is an absolute legend. And if you thought this was fun, you should see the video he made on Japan's history specifically.

I remember sharing this with one of my history professors, and he said it was pretty close to everything

I think my favorite thing about the Holy Roman Empire was that it was neither holy nor was it Roman.

It's so adorable how you say "Back in the day" like you were there in person.

@Acelightning00 10 months ago

The Napoleonic wars are so interesting. You should watch the oversimplified videos on them!

Yes, the pope was playing games. I have heard it said that the Holy Roman Empire was neither holy nor roman and only barely an empire.

Also sometimes you had multiple people arguing about which of them was actually pope, until eventually everyone would get together and figure out which was pope with the others being retroactively "antipopes". There is some wild shit in Papal history

"By the way, where the hell are we?" 🌍🌎🌏 "You're on a rock, floating in space. Pretty cool, huh?"

I chuckled a bit every time you said sensory overlord. Also, the intermission is his video of Japan's history, in the same format as this video.

21:34 You gotta remember that the people fighting Napoleon were also absolute monarchs. They didn't want to set a precedent for executing enemy heads of state because that could result in losing their own head one day. Much better to banish your rival, expecting that if one of yours bests you, you would also be sent away instead of having your whole family murdered.

edit: grammar

@pacowallochenkenrick 10 months ago

Well…if you’re interested in brushing up on some history, Oversimplified kinda explained a bit of the Holy Roman Empire and its relation to the pope in “War of the Bucket”, and he did a series of two videos on the Napoleonic wars

Actually the word Viking cones from the Norse word Vikingr which loosely meaans "One who takes a voyage (across water)".

Truly witnessing the entire history of the world in under 30 minutes would probably be akin to what happens to people when they try to comprehend Cthulhu, so Bill did us a kindness by simplifying it to the level he did

I have no doubt he's capable of the former, though; he's good at what he does lol
