"i will never understand like what you just stare at the fire because it's pretty?" there is a fireplace at the centerpoint of every single one of your videos 😭

Something I love about this film is unlike most/all other films that include an Asylum, is that they're actually trying to help. There's no experiments on patients

The best part of this movie is that you feel the same mental breakdown as Teddy/Andrew feels as he learns the truth.

One of the explanations I have heard regarding that glass is that Teddy is scared of water after his children down, so his brain blocks out water that is why he didn't see the glass until it was empty.

One of the first “clues” of what is going on is when they arrive on the island and have to surrender their firearms Dr. Sheehan who is supposed to be a US Marshall can’t figure how to unholster his gun and fumbles with that task that a seasoned US Marshall should be able to do in his sleep. But he is a psychiatrist and not a US Marshall but you just don’t know that at that point but it points to that reality.

This movie is so crazy on rewatch, every single detail is spoiling the twist. You guys mentioned the glass of water and the cigarettes, the first minute of the movie shows that Andrew is afraid of water but it's played off as him being sea sick. Or them having to surrender their guns to the guards, Andrew takes his holster off easily because he's handled a lot of guns while Chuck struggles since he's a doctor and probably has never touched a gun before. amazing movie

In case it wasn't clear, he doesn't actually regressed in the end, but he pretends to because he feels he doesn't deserve to live anymore after processing who he is and what he did. That's why he asks: "What would be worse? To live as a monster (Andrew Laeddis) or to die as a good man (Teddy Daniels: the alter ego created by his mind)?"

The wild thing is that Shutter Island and Inception came out only MONTHS apart. Like Winter vs summer. It was such a deja vu seeing him play these two roles back to back. Like dude really did a deep dive on playing a husband with a struggling mentally ill wife.

This is one of those movies that gets better upon rewatching, because you pick up on more and more each time. Your intros are my favorite part!!!!! Thank you for turning a boring Monday fun.

The ending gives me Flowers For Algernon vibes. He can't live with the guilt of having killed his wife, what his wife did, how he failed her and his children, yes... but he also has been told that he regresses over and over. These moments of clear, painful sanity are brief. So he uses one to ensure he won't go crazy again. Maybe he sees how invested they (doctors et all) were in helping him and he doesn't want them to hurt anymore either.

I love how this is a completely different movie the second time you watch it.

Shutter Island is one of if not the BEST psychological thrillers ever. I still remember sitting in the theater after the movie ended trying to figure out what I just watched. Just so captivating. Should have been one of Leo's many Oscars he should have by now.

The best thing about this movie is that it also makes perfect sense if Teddy is actually a Marshall and not crazy and this is an MK Ultra experiment design to manipulate him into making him crazy.

About pyromania. It’s not really an obsession with fire. It’s an impulse disorder, a rare one. A compulsion to set fires. Pyromania is done by someone to relieve stress usually.

Trigger > Compulsion > Ritual > Reinforcement

And I’ll say this now it’s not the same as arson.

I just light a candle. Not only does it light your room, but also smells good. For people who do have pyromania please seek professional help.

you guys' intro skits are just the best😂😂 the dedication is 100% there♥️

It's an even better movie once you know that Teddy is by far the scariest, most dangerous patient the entire time. The amount of help everyone is trying to give him is stunning, including the other inmates

I read this book right before the movie came out – I used to read under my desk in high school instead of paying attention in class, so you can imagine while the rest of my classmates were learning about derivatives and trigonometry, I was mentally going through the nine layers of hell reading the last 100 pages of this book. A firework could've gone off in the middle of the classroom and I wouldn't have noticed. This was a RIDE.

The storm was also a hallucination and I'll explain why.

In the lighthouse Dr Cawley says "I know every detail, Rachel Solando, your missing partner, the storm...". The storm isn't real and is a hallucination / delusion that gives Andrew a valid reason as to why he cannot leave the island. "I thought you were leaving?" - "It's not like we can take the ferry". Also the storm supposedly wrecked the courtyard with trees and debris everywhere it was a complete mess, yet somehow the next day the courtyard is in immaculate condition again? The trees are all standing upright again and everything is intact. Lastly the storm magically disappears and it's clear sunny skies as soon as Andrew is of sound mind again which tells us he is no longer hallucinating the storm.

This has got to be the most fun movie to watch first-timers react to. We already know what’s really going on, so we’re seeing it through a whole different lens.
