Americans had all the gear, but no idea. The SAS had little gear, the right idea and installed fear.

Even the Australian regular never walked the same path, but our SAS waited and watched, they are the original Ghosts

sadly one of the biggest killer of American troops in viet nam was under arm deodrant and perfume the viet cong could smell them coming from miles away

The SAS troops he's talking about were Australian SAS soldiers. The UK didn't send combat troops to Vietnam.

Don't mess with Australia

U.S military doctrine in Vietnam didn't seem to understand that when you're big and loud in the jungle the enemy always knows where you are and can engage you on their terms. They don't fear you then, you begin to fear them, and fear is a weapon of it's own.

The New Zealand SAS arrived in 1968 and were there for four years until 1972. My father had been with the NZSAS in Malaya in the 1950's. We soon learned why the Americans failed hopelessly in thick, jungle warfare. The US solders would be smoking, talking/chatting, use deororant, toothpaste and could be heard and smelt form hundreds of meters away. Plus, be in teams of around 30 solders. It was like listening to elephants barging through undergrowth.

And that's why the Americans haven't won a war in 80 years 🇦🇺🦘🪃

No British SAS in Vietnam, only Australian SAS.

The only SAS in Vietnam were Australian and New Zealand. British SAS were not there, at least not officially. The Aussie and kiwi SAS had loads of jungle fighting experience from communist insurgents in Malaysia. The SAS from the UK, Australia and New Zealand were using the M16 in jungle wars long before it was issued to US troops. Any British SAS in Vietnam were seconded to Australian or New Zealand units.

Always heard stories at that time that Australian & New Zealand Forces would find out which direction the USA troops were and go the opposite direction so as not to get friendly fired upon.

Stirling who formed the sas in north Africa is a close cousin of mine. He stole a load of parachutes and a plane and went out in the middle of a sandstorm. He broke his back as he'd never parachuted before and a couple of his squad died. He developed his tactics and devastated the Mediterranean situation for the axis of evil. Between about 40 people they managed to destroy all of the flying capability of the axis from morrrocco to Egypt. He only died in the 90s at a grand old age. But he's the guy that created the sas.

Aussies learnt first in New Guinea on the Kokoda Track, through Malaysia, Burma and jungles in other places.
