Even in the cadet force at school we were told never to salute in theatre, it would be a snipers dream.

I never saluted in an operational theatre, just a little nod of the head and got a nod in return.

The only time you salute in an operational area is if you dislike the officer you saluted.

In the british Army you do not salute if not wearing  head dress.
Also in theater dont salute as it would point out the officer to sniper

1982 I did my selection for the SAS it took me 2 years before I had to salute somebody and that was simply because the sergeant nodded to say that it might be a good idea to salute these high ranking officers that was the first time in 2 years

No salute in a war zone😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

It is the junior man who salutes (the rank not the man) first. the senior man returns the salute.

We used to put them in a group of individuals called jobsworth.
Basically idiots who refuse to accept operational realities in standing theatre conditions.

Title is wrong.
"Nobody salutes here, Mate"

You get those in every unit you serve in.

Very good

Brilliant story.

In the Ops Area, we never saluted. Also, radio comms was on a first name basis .. no rank, no deference.

Dont give rank to snipers.  We took rank off when we deployed.

❤❤❤❤❤

Cheshire UK.  Great story with a lot of sensible, logical facts.  Typical of the SAS.

You’d have to be a moron to salute when you are in theatre. Talk about drawing a target on…

Coffee? You sure it’s not NATO Brew tea 1 gallon bag in the Burco boiled to a thickness that it can be used as desert cam paint to patch smocks or tents

British never salute without headgear anyway...you can give recognition by moving your arms straight down and eyes toward the officer.

Until JSOC and the special air service properly joined for task force black then task force knight then the JSOC appreciated what the sas were doing and this was the and of any tensions, any tensions ! Until the special task forces were launched sas still reported and had thier orders from Hereford not JSOC which the sas did report to for a time during the taskforce missions thatvwas that.
