Yes, that was his dad. He had cancer, very serious, and they couldn't find a donor. They were basically watching him die. But after this video was released, a very distant cousin came forward and was a match! He's still alive.

Geez!  He's married, loves his wife and kids, And his mother and father. He is at his father's side, because he wants to be. This is the song he wrote to celebrate his father as he died, and he had the guts to sing it. His father did not die. But there never was a great rift between them!

James Blunt and this song ... one of few things that  make me proud to be British!

As a result of this song/video, a distant relative came forward and was a match and donated a kidney - so James did chase the monster away in a way this time.  It's the final touch on the arm from James's father right after the end of the song that gets me.  Dad still taking care of the son as best he can....

“That’s daddy!” Broke my heart! I sobbed so hard! 😢

James was a Captain in the British Army and was a tank commander in Kosovo ...he disobeyed a direct order to attack Pristina Airport where 200 Russian troops were stationed knowing if he did it could of started World War 3 .....NATO commander General Sir Mike Jackson commended him for his  decision and the countless lives he saved that day.

A funny part to this video is that at the end, the whole crew were in tears & sobbing. Charles (his father), said, hey, why's everybody crying, I'm still here.

Just a little background here. James is a former commander in the British military who served out in Kosovo, and his father was also a former military man. When this video was made, this was the first time James had sung this song to his dad who had only recently been diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer which was terminal. James's record company had insisted he use 'Auto-Tune' when he recorded this but he refused because he wanted this to be 100% real, raw and genuine. Towards the end of the song, we can hear James's voice wavering slightly but he managed to hold himself together. What you see in this video is real and absolutely authentic. Thank God, they managed to eventually find a kidney donor and his father survived and is still with us. To be honest, I don't know how James managed to do this, but he did, and God bless him for that. Family love is so so special and the bonds so strong, even when we choose not to admit it.

The 2 grown men line was what his dad would say when dropping james off for deployments.

Hid dad was a colonel in the British Army and he was a captain in the British Army , he left the army to become a singer , his dad was dieing of kidney failure when he wrote this song, however since then his dad got a transplant ....he is very close to his father , lovely family

Let ther be no darkness in your heart. Good words for all of us

This song was written son to father but is applicable to all loss & grief ..  I love that he sung it while his dad was still living .

Resentment and anger kills , forgiveness is the lesson we are meant to learn in life

Great reaction ladies love and hugs from Tasmania Australia

I really enjoyed y’all’s authentic reaction. You girls make a great duo!

I don't think I've ever seen anyone who hasn't cried to this song man. It hits your right in the heart. I still have my father and this song makes me cry like a baby! It's hard for two men to talk about feelings but this song made me tell my dad how much I loved him as he's getting on. Don't take people for granted because they could be taken in the blink of an eye.

His dad heard this song for the first time when they recoded it. James wouldn't let them do any editing when his voice got shaky because he wanted everything to be authentic. What really made an impact on me was knowing that the British tend to have that stiff upper lip attitude, and both James and his dad were officers in the British Army. I was so moved by the way they were able to express their feelings, that small gesture of just touching his sons arm sent me over the edge.
That dazed look you saw was not dementia. Dad at the time they recorded this was in end stage kidney failure and James was not a match. Dad was dying. When the song was released, a distant relative saw it and got tested and was a match. Dad had the transplant and is doing well now. So, James really did chase his dads monsters away...with his song. Just a beautiful blessing. Take a listen to "Goodbye My Lover", and "Your Beautiful"

They were both high anked officers in the British army. His dad did survive after a an emergency kidney transplant.

A beautiful reaction. This song tore me to pieces. I cared for my mom in her last years in my home. I'll never forget her frail body in my arms as she left this world. To everyone that has lost a parent my heart goes out to you. Such a devastating and  life changing loss.
I subscribed to your channel. I'm excited to see all your video's.

A mom and daughter reacting to this . It is a song that can be about any familiar relationship ..it just was written son to father

Absolutely loved your reaction.  It seems very sincere and genuine. Both of you had your own perspective and they're both honest.
