This was real. Both military men. Very honorable.

As another military guy, Im sure you’ll appreciate that James and his father were both in the military. When James left on deployment, his father would tell him, Your not my son, Im not your father we are just two grown men saying goodbye. That’s where the words from this song come from.

Thanks for this.

You’re a good man for bringin’ your daddy home.

James wrote this song for his father (Charles Blount seen in the clip) who had stage 4 kidney failure. When they did the video they hadn't found anyone who matched for a transplant and so they all thought the end was near. As a result of the video being released a distant cousin (also named Charles) came forward and donated a kidney and he survived. Great song and great story. Thanks Mike.

goddamnit, 9 out of 10 don't run the video to the end, and that tap on the arm means so much as a final nail hit on the head.

You say you don’t like to show your emotions but what we see from your reaction is genuine and raw.  From what you say you did for your dad in his last few days, I’d say you chased his monsters away. ❤️

James Blunt has the most amazing way of connecting with people.  His concerts make you feel like you're best friends.  He is funny, self-deprecating, honest and shows a beautiful gratitude for his audience.

I am the same way. Don’t apologize for being you!

This is how it goes. The sons have to take their turns chasing away the monsters.

This song hits different when you lost your dad,  thank you for sharing your honest reaction.

Mate I get your pain, I really do. I lost my dad 10 years ago and the pain is like it was yesterday. Every time I hear this song it rips open a hole that I feel will never heal. Bless you sir

so you did get the chance to chase the monsters away...  God Love you...  and thanks for being HUMAN and feeling the pain and sorrow that even a video can bring out in all of us...   Peace always Sir ...

❤❤❤❤

I lost my dad from Prostate Cancer and he died in my arms so I understand your pain brother....but the Love we shared with them was worth it

Both James and his father were ex military and the lyrics "Im not your son etc" comes from how they said goodbyre when James was deployed to war. Charles had stage 4 kidney disease and no mtah had been found so the song was recording when they thought he only had months left to live. His sister wrote a poem and James adapted it for the school.  Thankfully as a result of this video a distant cousin came forward who was a match and Charles had a successful transplant and is still alive today. My hubby is terminally ill with pancreatic cancer and its difficult to watch our sons cope with this anticipated loss.

Sir, I've always said, it takes a braver man to show his feelings, than one who hides them. You gave it a mighty try, but you finally let it go. And it's OK! It doesn't make you weak, it makes you human.

Honour and respect to you for bringing your dad home.

The only emotion that shows weakness is anger. Being able to show sadness, vulnerability etc is true strength. But also don’t let these comments tell you how to feel or live. ❤❤❤

Great decorated soldier great artist

I am sorry for your loss Mike.
