Hetalia being recommended to me by youtube is a sign of a recession

I like Hetalia as a teen... I'm a history teacher now... god help us all

Had to double check when this was posted, 15 HOURS AGO? No, are you sure this wasn't 15 YEARS AGO?

"Who is that , your boyfriend or girlfriend or gender neutral chibi-thing?" Is a line from the dub that lives rent free in my head

I got France’s English VA to say Brainrot at a con 😭

Part of it is also that the original HAD offensive jokes, but jokes that are only offensive if you're Japanese, and they flew right over the subbers heads and weren't translated right as a result. For example, in the scene with China you showed, what China says in Japanese is actually HORRIBLY offensive, because he's talking in an insanely racist stereotypical Chinese accent+dialect that has been used for ages in Japanese media to portray Chinese people as incapable of grasping the fine points of Japanese grammar because they're naive/stupid. That's stuff the sub just ignored. In that way, the add-libbing in the dub can also serve as a substitute for stuff that wouldn't translate otherwise.

Edit: After watching to the end, yeah, you missed a LOT of the offensive stuff in the Japanese original, which kinda just goes to show how hard to translate this comic/show really is. It really wasn't "made" offensive in the dub, it already was, just in a different way. The also show wasn't originally "targeted at middle age men"; Hidekaz Himaruya is a rare male Yaoi artist who's had booths at the Saturday part (the fujoshi timeslot) of Comiket. It's very much aimed at adult women. The designs of the characters aren't an accident.

Hetalia: the show that taught middle schoolers what the Axis Powers was in possibly the least helpful way imaginable

Edit: Im glad people passed their exams. Still dont think that personifying the most infamous fascist triad in history as loveable goofballs was necessarily the best move.

Britain drunkenly "Am I Protestant, or a Catholic? Oh God, I don't know". 😂

undertale's 10th anniversary, homestuck having a sort of renaissance, and now hetalia videos in my recommendations. close enough, welcome back middle school 2015-16.

The one thing that I always appreciated about Hetalia was that it didnt really pick and choose. It was offensive stereotypes for everyone so everyone got the flack lol

Okay, but you gotta admit, Eric Vale as America is SO spot on. He's hilarious in that role.

Hetalia’s dub works because they’re so offensive to EVERYONE. Nobody is safe, and it’s great. And yes, I agree that it’s best watched by adults, lol.

Eric Vale at a panel i was at once said "hetalia's audience started from 14 year old girls questioning their sexuality"

dumbledora the explorer killed me-

hetafacts resurgence in the big 25, there really is a recession

Hetalia was offensive the way South Park is, with full self awareness.

Hetalia's fandom was offensive because they were extremely ignorant children, with the full American education system.

The number of straight up unironic unsatirical racist and xenophobic OCs I saw in that fandom was insane, self awareness never entered the chat. The show, questionable as some moments were, never deserved hate. The fandom sure did though.

Dub is bibically accurate WWII anime

I'll never forgive my older sister for telling me this show was just a funny comedy about country stereotypes and then gateway drugging me into being a full on fujoshi.

The hetalia dub is hilarious and I'm tired of people acting like it's not

0:15 not even one minute in dear lord lol.
