Utah is a massive hotspot for mommy makeovers, but the reasons for this go far deeper than other typical beauty trends. Mormon women are often encouraged to marry young, have large families, and embrace motherhood as their highest calling, while simultaneously facing pressure to erase every physical sign of pregnancy and childbirth. Let’s discuss how Mormon doctrine, perfectionism, patriarchy, billboard culture, and Utah influencers have helped normalize expensive and potentially dangerous cosmetic surgeries. The culture celebrates the babies while stigmatizing the bodies that produced them.

"If a culture does not value the body that just created the baby, it doesn't value the woman, it values their womb." 100% right.

It's insane that major plastic surgery is okay and apparently even encouraged, but tattoos and piercings are not ok

LDS: Have a dozen kids!... but don't you dare look like it.

Love this show. Can you imagine if Utah was real?

Imagine being outvoted on your own family planning by a guy who doesn't exist

If a man does not want you the way you are, then he does not want you, instead he wants a fantasy.

I feel like they want couples to have kids because it's easier to convince a kid brought up in a cult to stay in that cult than it is to convert an adult outsider to the cult.

pedophilic beauty standards are so crazy harmful to teenagers too. how often do you see a teenage girl being described as looking too old or too provocative or looking more mature than the boys around her when the reality of what's going on is that people are so used to seeing adult women who look like teenage girls?

"Get your body back" gives me unwanted pregnancy vibes, like they're doing it as a duty but they're not emotionally and mentally into it, not because they fully and deeply desire to have every single child they have. I get it's not easy to simply accept changes in your body, even if from a wanted pregnancy, but it's the specific phrasing that sounds off to me. I've felt like "getting my body back" from an illness, but not from the (even unwanted) consequences of living a fulfilling life according to my preferences.

"the most important thing is to have more kids. more kids means more people to tithe and more tithe means more mooooooney" that's what I hear it as

@Mikhaelin 2 months ago

So they raise girls to be women who hate themselves, and then profit off the tithe the plastic surgeons are paying? Utah is a scary, scary place 😬

As a fellow commenter said, volunteer if you want to see retired women.....you will notice that retired women are the ones making your community function

If “God created all of His children in His image” then why is Mormon Jesus waffling on about plastic surgery?

I spoke with physician whose friend lost his wife due to complications from a mommy make over. She was in her early 40s and left her 3 kids without a mom....I'll keep my saggy boobs and tummy from my babies, thank you very much

Those people are truly evil for taking advantage of women when they are in such a vulnerable state after they HAD A BABY

For a man, a scar has always been a proud testament to courage and overcoming a battle. For a woman, however, a scar doesn't demonstrate the courage of having undertaken a pregnancy journey and overcome its difficulties, but is a source of social shame.

I'm 25, already having mixed feelings about my body changing without having any kids. Getting into your mid-20s means you aren't a teenager anymore and that's okay - especially understandable for your body to change with multiple pregnancies. I have bigger boobs, I went up 3 pants sizes in grad school, and there's fat on my belly where it used to be flat. I still feel weird because I'm bigger than I used to be, even though I think other women with my same body type are gorgeous. The internalized shame we feel as women is so strongly imposed by the media, it's crazy. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I had a sexist husband telling me they were right.
