"Somewhere, in our darkest night, we made up the story of a man who will never let us down." — Grant Morrison

I'll be honest, for all intents and purposes I stopped following comic books 35 years ago.  That makes me especially grateful to you when you give me a story that's this good long after I stopped buying.  No joke, dude, I cried at the end when Alice said, " because you're Superman." Thanks, Steve, for giving me access to the best Superman ever, yet again.

I know this is a Superman comic but the fact that Batman knows that this situation requires the likes of Superman really hits how well their dynamic works together.

This story is the reason why Superman has and always will be my favorite hero. This story gives me the same emotional ride I use to get when I snuck into my brother's collection and read all his Superman comics.

Every time I think "wow, they're writing Lex Luthor to sound more like Elon Musk" I'm slapped with the realization that Lex Luthor came first, and that a real man from the real eorld is choosing to behave like a comic book villain.

This reminds me of one of my favorite Doctor Who quotes.
Dr -"Who's she?"
Kazran - "Nobody important."
Dr - "Nobody important. Blimey that's amazing. Do you know in 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important before."

So....She was "Alice In Chains"?😁
I guess Superman believes, as John Donne believed "Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee. "
This is often condensed as "The death of one diminishes us all".
Superman starts out by not wanting to look for the little girl. He has way too much to do to take time to find one little girl. But he realizes that he's looking at the situation all wrong. It's BECAUSE it is just one little girl that he must search for her. To shirk that duty is to go against everything he stands for.
Thank you for this review. It was very thought-provoking.

I'm crying at work because of this. Best superman ever

It is genuinely my go to story when people ask me "How is superman cool?"

Tom King is a personal favorite, but god damn if this story isn't fantastic.

Absolute Superman is also giving similar feels currently

So, in short, Steve's message here is “Superman's greatest superpower is: he CARES.” And, by implication, “So should you…”

I feel a certain amount of Omelas going on in this story too. Refusal to triage or weigh relative benefits for utility. Even a single child hooked up to a machine in a basement, forgotten by the entire universe, deserves absolute dignity and absolute care.

“We are who we are, but you’re Superman.” Says the world’s greatest detective to SUPERMAN.

I haven't even read this series myself and the "Because you're Superman" at the end still killed me. Excellent delivery.

I didn't read much comics, especially Superman growing up but hearing this story now I wish I understood Superman this well back when I was a kid. I didn't understand how much this character and these stories were needed until now many years past being a kid. Thank you for these video's, helps me to appreciate a character I never understood.

Also I think the choice for the little girl to be black speaks  volumes With the way media reports news differently when the  child is white vs black, having the little girl be a poc it shows to the reader that no matter what color you are, everyone is important and Superman will go to any length to save to them.

The fact that Tom King wrote a Superman comic that I genuinely love is some sort of cosmic freak accident.

This youtuber understands story. A good Super-Man story is about anything except saving the world, and being the strongest.

This is the definition of Superman.

I love this story. I stumbled upon it just a year ago, and I absolutely loved it. It really cuts to the heart of what makes Superman who he is, just like all the best Superman stories.

I have PTSD and "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" does an outstanding job showing the effects of her trauma

I find it impossible to follow what to read in comic books, and I don’t have the energy to learn.

But more often than not, Shives videos will trigger a new purchase.
