i love that clip of tim curry

It's me! I'm the freak that got introduced to Contra through a musicless bootleg copy of Legacy of War and got memories about it.

Never got too far in it without the cheats, though.

Contra Force uses a weapon upgrade system similar to Gradius games so every case you pick up raises that bar in the User interface up by one and then you hit select I believe when the weapon you want is highlighted.

Legacy of War was not my first Contra game, but it was my last.

Here's hoping Hard Corps: Uprising makes the next Contra video. That game deserves a lot more love and a rerelease!

GBA Contra 3 is pretty clear case on how how drastically changing screen scale/aspect ratio very badly affects a classic game. It randomly has stages from Hard Corps replacing the top down sections making it even weirder.

If you haven't played OG in awhile, going back you should see that the cast of Hard Corps have been added in as additional unlocks. Their weapons are different; but enjoyably wacky still.

Force is the one I feel really needs a remake as it becoming a US exclusive screwed it out of having more capable hardware to run it. Look up Displaced Gamers' video on the subject. It's more enjoyable playing with overclocks on (via emulation); but a remake would really tap into the true potential it had.

3:53 That I-Frames joke had me rolling 🤣

I got Legacy of War for my birthday from a friend of mine.  Same friend got me Masters of Teras Kasai for another birthday.  I’ve not spoken to him in a long time.  I do not miss him.

Maybe bad contra games, but track from violent storm at the end makes it all good 👌

Matt mentioned "Apocalypse" on PS1 and hear me out: "One" on PS1 (Matt played it) is the best Contra that’s not a Contra. Love that game.

I used to work at a small rental store. I purposely placed Reloaded, Metal Slug and other alternatives next to the PSX Contra games. The success of this setup with our regulars showed us that grouping genre-like games helped them find new games they usually wouldn't find.

Weapons in Contra Force work the same way as Gradius. Briefcases switch position of a cursor at the bottom, and when it's on a weapon you like you press Select to select this weapon. All characters weapons are very different (everything except the first gun).

The way Legacy of War's 2D sprites look against the 3D background just looks utterly appalling.

C: The Contra Adventure definitely tries variety in it's style, presenting 2D, then 3D behind the back, then 3D overhead and even is a stage akin to the hallway stages of the first Contra, just don't remember it playing all too well.

The best non-Contra Contralike on the PS1 is One. It redefined run and gun gameplay for a new generation in 3D the way Contra did in 2D, and few games of its time equalled it. Your health bar and weapon power are the same meter, and all you do is move (wonky angles are part of the package but you get used to it) jump and shoot everything in sight, avoiding deaths and rerunning short sections over and over as your grandfathers did through a cyber future of deadly robots and explosions that might have something to do with aliens. Try it out.

RIP Comrade

Your ability to find the worst examples from series I love is always welcome 😂

C: The Contra Adventure's training mission reminds me of Blaster Master on the PS1.

Oh no! Bullets.....my only weakness!

My neighbour's first Contra was Legacy of War, he had and we played the sht out of it even with his dad which we also played Acopalypse, that would have been a perfect Contra game have that sidewalk 3D levels and also those other one from behind like those sections of original Contra

23:00 I forgot that Appaloosa was a Hungarian studio. My god. And the messed up part is, this isn't even close to the worst Hunglish I've heard.
