I got a hot tip that Norfolk Southern would be sending a locomotive to Progress Rail in Muncie Indiana to pick up 11 export units. Translation: 11 locomotives going to a railroad outside the USA. Driving in, I saw Canadian National locomotives, gleaming with fresh paint, sitting outside on the Progress Rail campus. Would these be the ones? Certainly, shipping to Canada would qualify as export. Before I could say with certainty, I waited trackside with many other railfans. In the 5 or so hours, I caught 10 other trains! Highlights: a Kasgro caboose, 4 green Burlington Northern hoppers, a CSX manifest with pipe loads, an NS manifest with aluminum slabs, a Union Pacific locomotive leading another NS manifest, CSX 7585 - with the Spirit of Birmingham decal as a DPU, a CSX unit in YN2 paint, and every Norfolk Southern train slamming the diamonds. What a great day to go to Muncie, and go TO THE TRAINS!!
