It’s worth noting that this was the encore. They had already been playing for about two hours before this song.

I'm an old man of 80, and I enjoy watching young people discover the genius of Mark Knopfler, who, in my opinion, is the greatest player to ever pick up a guitar. I don't have many years left to hear him, but I'll relish each chance I have to hear Dire Straits and Knopfler. In his later years, his genius as a poet becomes more evident. It's all remarkable, and I thank you for sharing your discovery of his genius.

Basically Mark tells the story while he sings with his guitar, and the rest of the band is so attuned to each other, it's musical perfection. They let the music take you over and transport you. The dynamics are insane. Performance peak, indeed.
Great reaction

I liken this to getting in the saddle on a Arabian Stallion and starting out slow at first, then trotting and all at once the speed increases and you are galloping full speed, holding on for dear life. It is exhilarating.

Another fact about Mark you may not know. He wrote Private Dancer and gave that song to Tina Turner. That was the song and title of the album that marked Tina's return to success and global stardom

This story was written by Mark while travelling on their tour bus along the Telegraph Road in Michigan USA. At the time he was reading a book called "Growth of the Soil" by a Norwegian author. He combined the two in his head to produce this song about early settlers in Michigan

Jordan, I just ADORE Dire Straits. I don't know what to say about them other than what they did with music is VERY special to me.
Dire Straits are not "rock stars," they are not "dominant" in the charts, they didn't just "sell" albums and make "money for nothing."
Their music isn't entertainment, it isn't just good sounds and great playing.
They are very, very SPECIAL.
Dire Straits FOREVER.

Dire Straits Private Investigations Live On The Night 1993- I will say no more. It's a must and on par with this.

The genius who is Mark Knopfler wrote the words, music, sang it, played his guitar as only he can, arranged it and produced it, usually about his own experiences.
This song is about the rise and fall of the Ford motor company in Detroit, the Telegraph Road goes through it, Mr Knopfler was on the Telegraph road when he got the idea.
Well done ❤

“Take your time, boys. I’ve got all day”.
It’s nice to settle into a great song like this, no rush. It’s just thoroughly enjoyable.

No rock band has ever done melancholy like Dire Straits. Absolutely impeccable.

This is their Opus, well written and performed by one of the greats in music.

Just wish that sometimes someone would acknowledge the keyboards performed by Alan Clark. His work contributed so much. And it's my understanding that Clark and Mark worked together in the arrangement of their performances.
