At 51, I walked away from almost everything I had built. I lived in my pickup, then a cheap camper, and eventually ended up on a little piece of land in an old single-wide trailer.
None of it was part of some grand plan. Hardship forced me to simplify my life. But somewhere along the way, something happened that I never expected: I realized I had accidentally escaped the rat race.
Today, I can live on roughly $1,800 a month, and this has become one of the best chapters of my life. Not because being broke is wonderful and not because everyone should live the way I do. It’s because I finally learned the difference between making more money and actually having more freedom.
I still want to grow. I still want to make more money. I still have things I want to build and experience. But I will never again build a life that requires me to sacrifice my peace just to maintain it.
I spent most of my life thinking freedom was something I could eventually afford.
Turns out, some of it was hiding underneath all the things I thought I needed.
What does “enough” look like to you?
