007 First Light is the first significant new bond game to release in over a decade. A long awaited project from the makers of Hitman: World of Assassination, it released to a hungry audience, some of whom found within it a less than stellar experience, myself included. However, was this reaction an honest appraisal of the game on its own merits, or is Commander Bond haunted by more than one Spectre?
In this video I explore the nature of adaptation, what gameplay paradigms mean for the holistic nature of an interactive experience and where First Light truly shines as a ludic experience.

Bond is not only trained to shoot, but is canonically adept in many fighting styles. This game takes influence from Daniel Craig's era but his fights are specific to this game. Using environmental objects? Destructible walls? Sabotaging doorhandles? Throwing Guns at opponents? Even the multiples times the game recreates Quantum of Solaces' fall and break through glass ceiling camera effect.
It's not only references but it's Post-Modernist Gen Z Bond living not only in the ai age but a nostalgic society. Homages, legacy sequels and reboots are nothing compared to James Bond, he's an ever evolving hero representing their time and space within cultural society. (Loved your video btw)
