In the year 2000, after a massive streak of hit movies like Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, and Big Daddy, Adam Sandler teamed up with director Steven Brill and co-writer Tim Herlihy to make his biggest and weirdest movie yet: Little Nicky. Backed by New Line Cinema and studio boss Michael De Luca, the $85 million comedy featured a huge cast—including Patricia Arquette, Harvey Keitel, Rhys Ifans, Tiny Lister Jr., Kevin Nealon, Rodney Dangerfield, Allen Covert, Peter Dante, Jonathan Loughran, Robert Smigel as the voice of Mr. Beefy the Bulldog, plus quick appearances from Quentin Tarantino, Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, Carl Weathers, Ozzy Osbourne, and Reese Witherspoon. But despite all that star power, the film completely crashed at the box office, lost millions, and led to major shakeups at the studio. This video breaks down the chaotic behind-the-scenes story, the big risks that backfired, and how this notorious flop temporarily stalled one of Hollywood's biggest comedy careers.
