This song is one of the greatest ever written.

These guys were early 20s at the time too. The talented bastards. 🤘

42 years I've been listening to this song and that ending solo STILL gives be chills every single time. This is a masterpiece.

Fade to Black is a song that taught me you don’t always need lyrics for your chorus, sometimes the guitar/music itself will do the singing 🎵

Honestly this is one of my favorite songs ever

A true Masterpiece, such a powerful song. I lost a cousin to drug abuse in my teens and we played this song to remember him, in a quartz quarry besides a lake we loved to hang on. That song is tattooed on my heart. Thanks Chris!

every single track on Ride the Lightning is a banger. The Call of Ktulu will blow your mind. As will Trapped Under Ice

Working as a bus boy, the dishwasher told me I had to hear this song. On his walkman headphones I first heard it. BLEW ME AWAY !!!
Am sure there are millions more with a similar story.

What I love about Metallica is that their music is so cinematic. Full of melodic sequences, not just all heavy in your face metal. The music tells a story too, along with the lyrics.

I remember the first time I heard this in the 80’s. I was so utterly blown away. There had never been anything like it. It still takes me on a magical journey.

Thanks for listening to this one. 🫶🏼

This song was pivotal in saving so many lives, myself included. The beauty, sorrow and hopelessness conveyed so masterfully let people feel heard and like they were not alone. They remain my favorite band to this day, for this song and so many others. Thanks for reacting to this deep, melancholic masterpiece.

I love those headphones.

One of humanity's greatest achievements just happens to be Metallica's first ballad.

I was 15 when I introduced this song to one of my school friends who was not into metal. I still remember watching his face change to awe and emotions coming out of him he'd kept hidden. This song really does save lives. For me, it's just absurdly beautiful and powerful and still a favourite over 35 years later and countless listens

I don’t know what’s better about this song: the lyrics, or the instrumental. They are both so so powerful

I’m 34 years old I remember this being one of my first cassettes that I stole a lot of my dad‘s shoebox. I must’ve been five years old till this day. This song gives me goosebumps.
