2:00 "Is that the bass player...?" How to open a can of worms without knowing it.

It is hard to believe - they were still only 25 when they recorded this album. At the foundation of thrash metal at the age of 19. At 22, totally surpassed the genre with the Master of Puppets album. Then this at 25. And then, people generally think of the Black Album as their "getting old and selling out" moment, but that was in 1991, and they were only 28 years old. To go through all that in just 10 years at such young age is mental.

I'm only 4 minutes in, but I bet this gentleman is sooo not ready for what's coming😂

All the greatest rock drummers in the world love Lars.  He has always been one of the primary songwriters for the band, and he creativity and playing to the song were critical to making the band what it was and is.  True, he's not a master technician.  But he is excellent musician.

Chris always has the best timed, softly spoken "yeah". Like Kirk starts absolutely shredding and we just get a little smile and a quiet "yeah". So good.

Metallica - ORION next please

I love how so many people from all walks of life realize they actually like metal. I grew up on this stuff, metalhead since 1987. Music this good isn’t made anymore.

"Is that the bass player...?" - Oh my sweet summer child... :D

7:18 James alternate picks that part. It's basically physically impossible to downstroke notes that fast ha

ONE of the few songs that NEED the video to REALLY hit home!

7:25 He is NOT only downstrokes there.  People overstate this.  He absolutely alternate picks that part, and many other parts.  James is just able to straight downpick certain rhythms that many guitar players need to alternate pick, that's it.  He isn't strictly a downpicker.

Btw : Great that you listen to the studio version and not get distracted by the music video. Love it !

If you think it sounds good on your monitors in your studio, imagine being a teenager listening to it blasting on your walkman as you walk into downtown just after sundown, with no adult supervision. Or blasting it on your boombox to go to sleep or to wake up. I think a bit of that context of how we listened to it makes a difference as to how it felt.
Those are moments lost to time now, hard to even describe.

This album changed my 12 year old music life the first time I heard "Blackened." This whole album and "Ride the Lightning" are my favorites.

Reacting to the studio version is the only way to go.

I honestly feel like this is the best Metallica album for Jazz or Progressive Rock lovers. They do a lot of pretty complicated stuff on this album.

I like how positive you are, man! And Lars is awesome -- screw the haters! It's true that he might not be the most classically trained drummer out there, but he gets the job done for them.

I love the drumming on this...Lars is a genius!

This song hits FAR different than any other.. It defined a generation.
