🌱 What are you planting in the garden of your thoughts?

Welcome to the first episode of my new As A Woman Thinketh Art Journal series.

I’m currently writing As A Woman Thinketh, a Christ-centered reimagining inspired by James Allen’s classic As a Man Thinketh, written specifically from the perspective of a Latter-day Saint woman.

But I didn’t want to just write about these ideas—I wanted to create my way through them.

So I’m taking a handmade journal I made and turning it into an art journal that will grow alongside the book. Each chapter will inspire a new art project exploring our thoughts, faith, agency, experiences, and the women we are becoming through Jesus Christ.

For Chapter One, Thought and Character, I’m exploring the question:

What am I planting?

I begin with a messy page and add some of the thoughts many of us carry—I’m not enough. It’s too late. I can’t do this. I should be further ahead.

Then I cover them with gesso.

Some disappear completely. Others can still be seen peeking through the new layer—and I love the symbolism in that.

Our past thoughts and experiences may still be part of our story, but they don’t have to remain the focal point of the page.

Over that old layer, I begin planting something new:

Faith. Hope. Gratitude. Courage. Peace. Forgiveness.

I am a daughter of God.
I can begin again.
Christ will help me.

At the heart of the finished page is one of my favorite invitations from the Savior:

“Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.” — Doctrine & Covenants 6:36

This isn’t about pretending difficult thoughts never happen or believing that positive thinking will magically create a perfect life.

It’s about noticing what we’ve been allowing to grow—and learning to turn our thoughts back toward Christ.

Maybe changing our thoughts isn’t always about forcing ourselves to think something positive.

Maybe sometimes it’s simply about changing where we’re looking.

As you watch me create, I invite you to think about your own inner garden.

What have you been planting? And what would you like to plant instead?

You don’t have to change the whole garden today.

Just choose one new seed. 🌱
