You know, I often called Ihsahn the "Black metal version of Devin Townsend" when trying to explain to someone what his music is like. 😂

"Better to seek something meaningful than for absolute truth". Nailed it.

Two masterminds of music world, admired by thousands of people, mentioning their low self-esteem, impostor syndrome and need to work on the confidence... Weirdly, I'm not surprised. The greatest ones are always humble.

These two have always reminded me of one another, both are musical geniuses.

His comments on violence in art were so spot on -- not the glorification of violence per se, which is what stereotypical "dumb metal" imagery tends to be, but what "violence in art" symbolizes -- suffering in life, overcoming, sacrifice for higher ideals, etc.
As an aside, it's funny how many classical fans will turn up their nose at John Williams for being a "film composer", even though he has chops in line with many Romantic greats.

Dev's admirable humility may never allow him to fully realize the profound impact he has had on soul-searching musicians like myself. His exceptional music not only inspires us but also guides us in uncovering what drives us to create, through thoughtful discussion and reflection. This insight could ultimately help us reach our musical goals and, in turn, inspire others.

When Ihsahn is speaking about the transcendence of violent art becoming symbolic and beautiful through the passage of time , I immediately thought of Devin's Strapping Young Lad era.

Devin, Ihsahn, Mikael Akerfeldt, Jonas Renkse, Einar Solberg, Steven Wilson, my all time favourite prog musicians/frontmans. I love when they come together.
