Is living in Japan still as cheap as it once was?

After 11 and a half years living in Japan, I've seen the yen change profoundly: when I arrived, 1 euro was worth around 118 yen, while in recent years, the exchange rate has reached around 180-186 yen per euro.

But what does all this really mean for those who live and work in Japan?

In this video, I'll tell you how the cost of living has changed since the pandemic: from supermarket shopping to the price of bread, meat, and ramen, from gasoline to salaries, from overtime to working for Japanese companies.

I also talk about my personal experience and how my family and I try to cope with the high cost of living: where we shop, how we take advantage of discounts, why in some cases a car can become a tool for saving, and why living outside Tokyo can make a big difference.

Is Japan still a cheap country?

Or does the Japan that many remember no longer exist?

I'll tell you this from the perspective of someone who has actually lived in Japan for over 11 years.
