As someone with a very wealthy father i really tired of this supposed "feminist" hypergamy. All ive ever watched my entire life was rich men manipulating women using money, once they get you comfortable with all the gifts and the lifestyle, you are very easy to string along, and no you cant girlboss your way above it. I watched it happen to my mother, and then my stepmum.  Its literally the most traditional thing ever too.

I think the issue arises when someone is preaching a certain lifestyle and telling others how they should live only to not do it themselves. If she changed her mind, she should be confident in her decision instead of trying to avoid responsibility from the audience she created.

Another issue with her absolute statements like “don’t get married don’t have kids” is that, like any statement dictating “right” behavior, can make those who do or want those things to feel shame or like they are doing something wrong. A young girl who dreams of motherhood might watch this and think, “my desires aren’t feminist so I should try to change this fundamental part of myself.” Which can be damaging in the other direction. Rather than inspiring that girl to critically examine her desires and determine if it’s something she wants for her own self or because of external conditioning. And helping her come to an authentic and informed choice. There’s no room for that sort of process in absolutes.

I genuinely don't believe that MJ is a feminist beyond the immediate benefit. Her actions have never been as radical as her stated opinions. She generally behaves in line with american liberalism. Her views on race and class are atrocious. She lifts nuanced discussion from it's context and tacks it on the end of her opinion. She doesn't think deeply about these things and doesn't care, and she's quick to use black creators as a shield when she can't defend a view she lifted from them. And because she presents her view like a moral verdict, she can't ever admit a change in opinion.

I'm unsure if this actually harms the movement or not, though. Hypocrisy comes with the territory, I guess.

This is exactly why I have no use for any of this gender war garbage. All of these jokers on social media are grifters and the addle-minded clowns who follow them are contributing to the downfall of society itself.

She regularly speaks in absolutes to make inflammatory statements to remind viewers to keep watching

I think fundamentally this argument with, "Marriage is inherently oppressive towards women" while that (was) quote on was is in itself a false equivalency when taking the context in today because marriage as an entity and purpose has changed just like everything else through time. Marriage's purpose is no longer for women to marry men to gain access to resources and security. It is now a confession of love that you want to spend your life with someone. So this notion of, "I don't want to marry because it's oppressive towards women" makes you sound foolish at best or straight up dishonest (grifter) at worst. Feelings of intimacy and closeness aren't wrong. Let's not attack that please.

I think folks can get too caught up on hypocrisy sometimes. Its better to focus on the arguments people make, what you can learn from them by thinking critically. If your doctor smokes and tells you not to smoke, it doesn't mean that their medical advice is any less valid. Marriage can be a bad deal for women most of the time and still the person who told you this can get married, it's fine. And as stated in the video, people can kind of get caught up in these parasocial relationships and feel like they really know the influencer.

I am an amateur historian so I'm not gonna claim to have degrees or whatever, but this idea that marriage has always been bartering is SO antiquated. Do people actually think no couple was ever interested in promising their lives to each other before religious persecution and gender constructs? News flash, all civilizations since the beginning of recorded time have had marriage in one form or another. This sounds like people who claim we are only monogamous or polyamorous. People exist in both or somewhere in the venn diagram. I work with old people all day and we get calls all the time that we will no longer be seeing a couple due to broken heart syndrome. I don't think either of them were thinking about transaction or patriarchy when they got together. It's like you said, people speak in absolutes. Her views are incredibly disingenuous and her walking it back makes her sound like a grifter.

I have never heard of her but I see her talk in this video and all I can see is a giant cope, she is trying to talk herself out of getting married while she actually really wants that, she senses benefits in marriage but can't say it aloud because she should then face losing them if she ends up unlucky and unmarried. And that giant cope is spoken out loud so she can collect other women around her and convince them to support her so she doesn't remain the only one who is unmarried. And this is why everyone senses betrayal in this, because marriage brings some benefits and she now has them while other women she collected to support her are still unmarried...
