I witnessed one of the saddest friendship break-ups because of this. Those girls were like sisters, but the male-centered one was so desperate to be chosen by a man that she got into a relationship with her “sisters” assaulter. I learned then that I will not get close with a girl who is “boy crazy”, because your friendship will NEVER be an exception.

In a lot of places, we're not that far out from a time when all but the most privileged women had to have a husband to survive. The legacy lingers on in our culture and how women socialize their daughters and model friendships with other women.

I've already seen some male-centered women talk about the Cornell 7. Their victim-blaming is absolutely disgusting. I know this is about male-centered friends, but the 2nd TikTok made me think of what I've seen so far regarding that case

my ex best friend is a male centered woman. she’s now engaged to him and has lost all
of her friends. he’s embarrassed her in public multiple times and has no real life goals

My mom seggsulized me (oldest daughter) growing up in subtle but damaging ways, and one part of it was her competing for my dad’s affection and attention 🤮 I never realized or understood until after he died, I had to defend myself (a child, by the way) in an argument because she said she had a closer relationship with him since she was his wife. I told her him and I had a very special relationship. She smiled a disgusting, evil smile and implied that I was sick and incestuous. I have never ever gotten over that and since then family has confirmed she’s always competed with me even as a baby. Once she got a new boyfriend she basically stopped caring about all of our family (on her side and my dad’s) and prioritized being as important in her boyfriend’s family as possible. She does not care about me in a meaningful way nor my sister like she cares about her boyfriend’s adult children. These women suck to be friends with but they suck even worse as parents.

I feel like most teenagers/young woman go through a puck me phase. A lot of people grow out of it fortunately, There are plenty of male centered women still around though.

i actually stopped speaking to some of my closest friends after they got engaged because after that point, i could never see them alone, their partner was always there too.  and they would include their partner in the conversation, even if it was private stuff about me venting about whatever relationship issue i was dealing with, they would ask their partners opinion.  like idgaf what your man thinks, i wouldn't date him so his opinion is irrelevant, i care what YOU think.  had to distance myself from both friends who did this.  i still miss them.  Both have several kids now and i never hear from them.  And we used to be SO close before they got engaged.

Obviously, I'm (middle-aged cishet man) not the best person to speak on this subject. I wanna note that the women i have a lot of time with and understanding of (family members) who are this kind of male focused, arent really connected to anyone. They don't know or care about their man's interests. They dont have strong personal interests or really share in anyone's interests. Anyone's person. All of the value is simply in the existence of relationships. No depth to the relationships. Aside from girlfriend/wife, they may identify as mother. They're not really connected to their children, even if they're deeply invested in their role as mother. I mean, there's good people like this, but I find them boring. I can't really have a conversation with them. I dont learn anything from interacting with them. Theyre not worthless people but I dont get valuing friendship with them much. I'm autistic and i could be off here.
