Hi
What a great little video. I think we all need a reminder to look after bait and save money. Thanks very much for making this video.

I always freeze left over casters and any groundbait etc., never had any problems doing it. Maggots, I still often breed my own and the same goes for casters. When I first started fishing vou had to do this because they weren't available commercially.
Keep the videos coming.

Rice and Pasta make a good ground bait.

Thank you, I didn't know about the bottle or elasto tubs

Cling film, doubled over, put the casters in the middle, wrap the cling film over them & roll a sausage,  twisteez on each end, in the fridge, Bob's yer uncle

i keep my Maggots in the Fridge, and after taken them out fishing i bring the left overs back home and put them back in the fridge, i but 2 points and split them in half so i only take out 1 pint fishing.

These maggots are good fresh ones as the shop keeper said he gets them in fresh evry Tuesday, i have have Maggots live and kicking for over 1 weeks, near 3 weeks befor they start turning into casters, the casters i sometimes take out anduse as well, or i freeze them and then take them fishing when need to, but i normally take out a Pint of maggots and a 1/4 pint of casters, as i float fish a lot, i put on 2-3 maggots on a size 14 hook, or 2 maggots and a caster, or 3 casters only, or 1 maggot 1 caster, depends on how i fill as with my bad eyesight it hard enought to hook 1 darn maggot. lol

Very good info there Jamie Thank you, :face-blue-smiling::face-blue-smiling::hand-pink-waving:

add chilli powder to red maggots. 1 gives them a flavour tench barbel bream n carp love.2 it makes them darker. 3 the chilli makes the fish grub around longer because it's sticks to the bottom .

Great video appreciate that very helpful 👍

I'm in my late 70s and on a budget, I only ever use thick sliced white bread, cut with scissors and cheap dog mixer biscuit. Bread, 75p, dog mixer roughly £1 kilo. Works for me.

Jamie. those white pellets for mugging definatly work. I bought some squid n octopus flavour. caught 60lb carp in half a day's fishing. just fishing topkit and 1 section in the edge

Great Video I put my maggots in fringe low and have keep them nice and fresh for over two weeks in the summer, just need a bit of TLC so riddle them every 3 to 4 days. Just a suggestion would love to see you do a maggot turning video every time i try they end up floating.

Buy maize flour and after each day in fridge just riddle the maggots add some fresh maize makes them last alot longer, when you finished your session do the same as above. Another good tip is keep them in a Tupperware like box not a bait box.

I must be missing something. Why have you used the narrowest neck bottle you can find? Why can't you use a wide neck bottle?

Is it possible to store freshly cooked hemp the same way you do the casters? Right now i'm having a little trouble with room in my freezer..

Follow this video with caution. Bottle idea looks good but with no air casters will die and go stale. If you want to keep them for 6 weeks freeze that bottle straight away, otherwise you're not saving money, you'll just be feeding stale bait after a few days once they're dead, a fridge will just delay the stale smell a day or two. If in a bag or a bucket with the lid sealed with a bag and you expel and replace all the stale air, then re-seal they will live and stay fresh. Done it in Ireland and at home so many times, if you leave casters more than a day without replacing that air in whatever sealed container you use they're dead and stale, useless and wasted money.

Use old Lucozade original bottles for storing casters myself the large neck makes it so much easier to put em in an get em out

Why not get some vacpak bags instead of a plastic bottle that you have to fill completely? Plus using the vacpak bags means when you've put your casters inside while on the bank, you vacuum all the air out and they store in the fridge so much easier.
A trick I used to use for maggots if you've kept them for a few days or more. Once you've re-riddled them and gotten rid of the dead and detritus, and you have a couple pints, pour in a desert spoonful of custard powder.
And as for groundbait. Supermarket bread, white or brown, that they're selling off cheap because of the expiry date.
Stick them in a freezer, if you have one (You can pick a small chest freezer up for as little as £50 brand new.), and they'll last for months. Once taken out, spread the slices out to dry them then stick them in a blender. I liked to use a mix of one brown and one white loaf. Makes a nice ball of groundbait. Then you can add whatever flavours you like to it. Or just use it plain.

Where did you get/buy the vacuum box please

I’ve bought loads of fancy baits and yes it costs a fortune..then I caught on a bit of coloured foam, and plastic corn. These fancy baits are a massive con
