Bring back the mystery of only knowing what had been caught via a book or a magazine article. The elusive anglers operating in the shadows was what made carp angling so fascinating to me when I was younger. Stories that were whispered about if you were lucky enough to know someone that knew someone else who would pass down a tale that became carp folklore. I do miss those days. I remember punching the air when Jacko caught two tone after reading all his articles leading up to the capture. It felt like you were on the journey with them.

As a young lad canal fishing in the 80s, the drennan canal cystal float was a must. Especially as we couldnt afford poles. Esp and drennan tackle has always been brilliant

Should definitely have a series with old stories 👍🏼

Great film  and great to hear you singing rob maylins praises   i agree he played a huge part in carp angling both in writing books and catching some memorable catches  and rig developments

Really enjoying these mate. I was a carp academy member a couple of years ago but finances got abit tight following the birth of my daughter.

These videos are invaluable you deserve every ounce of success thats coming.

Being native American here in the US i have learned from you to use watercraft in my fishing. Always have in my hunting dont know how i missed it in my fishing. But for me it's now watercraft then bait then riggs. I only have rivers with good bit of current so im always working on riggs cause of the current. have learned so much from you thanks more than you know.

After the Hinge , Terry went on to use the chod rig that really spanked them as Carp feeding in big weed beds, with the chod you could pull the beads up the lead core 5 feet and effectively fish on the top of weed beds , this was a game changer as carp that felt safe feeding in thick weed or holding in the colder months we’re getting spanked on the chod , and that was a secret weapon that devastated lakes whilst matey next door was blanking on his hinge rig out on open water !!!

Had all 3 of Robs book, only got 2 now. The rig section was the holy grail.

Spot on about Rob Maylin there Adam

Great video, Adam. I love hearing you reminisce about the old days while sharing your knowledge with us. It’s so fascinating, and something that feels so lost in modern carp angling, where everything seems to be a hard sell.

On the subject of bait, I’d absolutely love to hear you have a conversation with Paul Martin or Sam from Opti Baits, or even better, both of them. Their conversations on the Carp Chronicle podcast genuinely blew my mind. Such intelligent, knowledgeable people, just like yourself.

That would be one hell of a conversation!

Some nice insights there mate, interesting stuff, look forward to part 2 😎

Evening Adam ,
Great ramble there as you put it lol . Very interesting stuff you brought up .
Really Looking forward to part 2

Fantastic video much of which I can relate to being of a certain age 😁 Look forward to part 2.

excellent talk really good, look forward to part 2

Great video Adam. You going off piste with details behind the rigs is so important imo as context is everything. Looking forward to the next edition. I also agree with you about Mr Maylin. I worked with him for some years on BC and his impact on the hobby is so undervalued. His books and publishing achievements are second to none but his own angling needs some serious thumbs up.👍

Enjoyed this mate

Great stuff Adam!!
Looking forward to part 2.

Rob Maylin’s books & the older Big Carp magazines were absolutely must-read/own back in the day. The guest chapters in his books were also huge parts of carp angling history then (especially when Zenon’s guest chapter was almost a third of the book it was published in!!!)
When Rob wrote about rigs, you read it over & over back then as his mind just worked in a different way in comparison with most writing articles. The Swimmer rig was one of my go-to rigs back then with an ultra critically balanced popup that if the undertow changed, the rig would follow the tow😂 I have to admit back then I did experiment with a rig ring before it became the de facto way, but found that only worked if the loop was superglued rigid. If left the braided loop pulled through ‘limp’ the ring wasn’t really needed. I can remember scoring microwaved/pan fried popups so the floss had something to bite into as for some reason the hookbaits were that hard, the floss or hair braid would slip off on a big cast (& didn’t fancy supergluing the floss to the bait).
Will never forget the Partridge Grey Shadow hooks either (especially the Ritchie Mac Bent Hook’s which I never had the double hooking issue but might have been because the shank wasn’t as long as the home made type or Piggyback/Streamer patterns).
This video brings back memories of things I had thought I had forgotten especially thinking back to pre- ESP Drennan’s Starpoint hooks & the plastic Boilie Bayonets that you stretched to make the ‘hair’ longer & were a nightmare to push into a boilie without drilling it out a bit first…
Oh those were the days that are sorely missed IMHO

Remember rob having the keys to a pub in Sandhurst landlord was on holiday a couple of us fishing the match and nursery joined in a all nighter nearly drunk the pub dry good times ❤

Great vlog mate, very interesting, I've been fishing for over 45yrs now and I remember when them rigs came out, totally changed everything, I remember my first 20+ was out of Dartford lakes, that came on the stiff hinge, takes you back mate, think it's got to complicated now, but still very enjoyable, look forward to part two, 💯👌🎣
