Edit: This campaign was set in the Fae Wild. They were using a "wild magic" mechanic where they had to roll for random magical effects if they chose to "twist a roll" in order to re-roll their dice. The random magic being "become a proud nudist, grow breasts, be haunted by the last person you killed, etc."

While DnD mechanics are heavily rules based, alot of people play the way that they prefer to play. It's all about your friend group and if you want to lean into role play or not. Avantris is primarily improvisational. They do follow core rules and mechanics but they roll with the insanity. Which is what makes DnD so beautiful, because in the end there really aren't any rules.

Funnily enough, Gricko and Chuckles are voiced by the same person, Mikey.

I love that Mace just actually laughs like that.  Puts his whole body into it every time.

Fun facts about this series:

~ Two of the diagonals in the word jumble are "sex' and "laid." No wonder Frosty said Gricko would get those soon.

~ That "You know I had chlamydia" line was the literal FIRST thing Chuckles ever said.

~ Gideon has killed at least six different clowns and jesters, all by accident. Four of which occurred before the campaign even started. Chuckles just happened to be the latest one at the start of the campaign and Klutzy was killed later on.

~ The whole bit with the sauces actually ended up paying off, because Gricko had never actually tried French dressing before. When the party found a whole bucket of french dressing later on, Gricko understandably wanted to taste it.
He immediately hated it.

~ Clementine is a cardboard cutout that Torbek claims is his girlfriend. Yeah he wouldn't recognize the "look" but how would he know that she uses the wand to begin with?
That's why his player broke, and that's on top of the fact that he brought this upon himself.

~ There are actually two words that rhyme with orange:
- Sporange: an outdated technical term for the sporangium, a structure of plants that produces spores
and
- Blorenge, a mountain in Wales.

And if you're curious:
- Purple rhymes with Hirple, meaning to walk with a limp; and Curple, the hindquarters or the rump of a horse.
- Silver rhymes with Chilver, a word referring to a female lamb.
- Month actually rhymes with Millionth.

The difficulty comes from creating a rhyme with those words that makes sense.

~ The sound of Klutzy's nose breaking wasn't edited. Derek made that sound live by covering his mouth and then scraping his fingernails against his teeth.

~ The little wizard guy is a hand puppet that Mikey uses as a kind of mascot. What's underneath is supposed to be his arm.

~ Mace (who plays Gideon and has the greatest laughs ever) had never seen the Muppets when this campaign took place so when the rest of the party was doing the Statler and Waldorf bit, that was his genuine reaction to that kind of humor.

~ The cat piss bit is part of a mechanic Avantris campaigns have where they can do rerolls in exhange for Feywild curses affecting them. This includes things like Gricko suddenly growing breasts and Kremy being unable to lie.
The specific one for the cat piss is "You are now a feral Tabaxi with the need to mark your territory." As you can surmise, it comes up quite often.

~ Angela is not the name of this campaign's DM, her name is Nikkie. Them calling her Angela started as a bit that ended up sticking because of how much it annoyed her.

~ The reason Gricko said Frosty was the least favorite is because Avantris held a popularity poll for their player characters. Frosty came in last place.

~ Gricko couldn't finish the Deez Nuts joke because the woman in front of them was a fey who stole jokes, akin to the stories of fairies stealing a person's name. Not only can he not finish the joke, he is literally unable to say the punchline.

~ The Avantris team has confirmed that a group of Carlfish is called a "gym."

~ Derek actually held the pose he made at 47:29 for a couple of minutes after the death of the Carls.

PLEASE WATCH THEIR UPROOTED CAMPAIGN! BOOMY NEEDS TO EXPERIENCE BITSY!

22:24 "i don't know how they get thro the campaign"
Well they don't xD! They end up joking so much and laughing so much that it takes, 3, 4 times what they should to make any progress. It's Perfect!

"...In d3ath we are the honk legion!"

Don't worry about not knowing anything about D&D.....most of us that play don't know all that much either.

Also, I wish the "I shaved" clip was here, but I know that was a different campaign.

Chuckles WAS a side NPC character voiced by the same as Gricko, Chuckles is based off the Disney cartoon Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter, the bit about Gideon being haunted by Chuckles was the birth of Chuckles.

Chuckles quickly became stupid popular so they made him a mainstay; they also had plushies of the Witchlight cast, sadly the majority cast are no longer made, BUT you can still get Chuckles!
Gideon has killed close to 10 clowns!

Mace who plays Gideon as you see quick is hilariously famous for laughing from his soul. XD

Mikey and Rich who play Gricko and Kremy, are IRL twin brothers.

I TOTALLY recommend seeing the IRL shorts, seeing the chaos behind the animations can be just as hilarious; or even better there is Side by Side! So you can see both the animations and the IRL mayhem.

Girl, don’t worry about knowing anything about DND. We’re very inclusive community. I think one of our greatest pleasures is introducing people to our favorite game. ❤

I WAS JUST ABOUT TO REFER YOU TO THESE GUYS! LITERALLY TONIGHT!  SO GLAD YOU ARE WATCHING THEM!!!!

For some extra info, here’s the list of characters and who plays them!

- Kremy, a lizard folk warlock played by Richie.

- Gricko, a goblin Druid played by Mikey.

- Gideon, a Fire genasi fighter played by mace.

- Morning frost, a Tabaxi sorcerer played by Derek.

- Torbek, a bugbear, originally  theif rogue before becoming a blood hunter, played by Andy.

- and finally Nikkie, the dungeon master!

And some fun facts! Mikey and Richie, who play gricko and kremy are fraternal twins! Andy is married to another LOA member Kelsey and they have a child. Mace is married to Casey who appeared as a player in another campaign and they have a daughter, and Nikkie and Richie are also dating! And to top it off, Derek went to clown college.

And to tell who’s who, you can just listen to the laughing to figure it out. Hear someone clapping their hands? That’s Mikey. Banging the desk? Richie. Sounds like a train? Andy. Constantly laughing at the top of his lungs? That’s would be mace. He’s notorious for being very Giddy.

As for fun facts about this specific campaign; in the lore, Gideon and Kremy are married (a sequence of events involving a lot of magic curses that I won’t go into detail) and Chuckles came to be because the cast of characters originally worked at a carnival where Gideon killed a clown. But, eventually, chuckles became so popular Mikey, who voices him, went on to use him as a character in other Campaigns! And purposefully leaving out context: Frost has slept with the majority of the cast and Torbek is dating a cardboard cutout.

A campaign can last for a few months to decades. The longest running campaign has been going since 1982.

you DEFINITELY need to watch the ones that have the side by side with the animations and IRL Footage, it makes it way better

Well that's the beauty of dnd. It can be whatever you want it to be. Serious, silly, fantastical, grounded. Whatever kind of story you want to tell. These guys just love using it as a vehicle for comedy.

Chuckles started out as an ad-lib bit for "the last person you killed tells you things about their life no one wants to know," but in subsequent campaigns became an actual character.
They are ad-libbing all of this, by the way.

Character = player
Gideon = Mace
Gricko/Chuckles/Gary Goodberry(the tiny Wizard puppet) = Mikey
Frost/Klutzy = Derek
Torbek = Andy
Kremy( I feel like I'm spelling it wrong) = Rich (Mikey's brother)
DM/"Angela"/Twig = Nikki

Little lore, Twig is a brownie, which you may know is a fea creature. She turns into a boggart when angry.

Chuckles and Bitsy are the fricken best 😂

in a nutshell...it is actors/players performing a role in a play/adventure with a narrator/DM/dungeon mastertelling the story.

Gricko/Chuckles and Torbek are my favorite characters.

A D&D campaign can last 4 hours or months. Most campaigns end when either the story ends, or the players get bored or everyone ends up dying. Campaigns rarely just end because the players will always derail it by doing something completely unrelated for hours. This is because the DM only sets up the story, after that it is up to the players to tell the story. The DM is there to provide context, give outcomes, play NPCs, make sure rules are followed, and answer questions. When I used to play a long time ago we spent 4 hours on day getting absolutely nothing done or progressing the story in any meaningful way. I played one campaign for over a year, and had several last only one session.
