Another YouTuber, MacDoesIt, did a video on this movie. He had a theory that the movie was originally supposed to be about the Cheshire Cat, with the teleportation and disappearing, but was changed last minute to cash in on Steamboat Willie entering the public domain.

The only version of a Steamboat Willie horror movie I'll accept is one where the killer is a full-on cartoon character who uses cartoon physics and gags to kill people, like some combination of A Nightmare on Elm Street and The Mask, but these public domain cash-ins are universally kind of shitty and creatively bankrupt (even putting aside the budget that would call for), so I'm not optimistic. At least not this soon.

Steamboat Willie has so much potential for a horror project. The cartoon is basically Mickey abusing animals for 7 minutes straight and distorting their bodies in impossible ways. You could do something unique, but money-hungry people would rather make the most generic slasher movie ever because it's easy.

a group of teens being terrorized by someone in a mask so they set a trap to get him.

Guess who, scooby doo?

=/ Most slasher movies only vaguely imply that the killer can teleport rather than just showing the audience directly that they can about 10 minutes into the movie...I feel like the uncertainty helps preserve the tension better.

"...a guy dressed as Mickey Mouse is killing us...teleportation is still very much on the table!". . . . 🧐 but is it really?!? embracing the career path from Cosplayer to Nobel Prize physics breaker is crazy work!

The movies being awful aside, the fact that people immediately jumped onto making gory slashers the second the characters became public domain is hilarious lol

This director has no concept of "could" vs "should"

I swear there is an SCP out there pumping out bad horror movies when anything goes into the public domain

"And then he throws his wrench at Blonde Lady because Mickey doesn't learn from his mistakes." got me fucking cackling

There must have been a collective head-slap from everyone involved, if they saw you describing the Steamboat   Willie short and realised: Oh, that's what we should've done...

Saw Goldilocks and the Three Bears: Death and Porridge yesterday. Just don't watch it... Or do, I won't stop you, but you will regret it.

3:18 I THOUGHT HE WAS EATING A BOOK

There is a analog horror based on Steamboat Willie that came out when Mickey entered the public domain that is really good! It's called The Vanishing of S.S. Willie and it plays around with the animation from the original short. That is the only good Mickey horror I saw so far aside from maybe Abandoned By Disney. It sucks because there is a lot of potential of horror for rubberhose animation because those shorts can get really freaky sometimes

0:21 I genuinely think the reason so many people are making horror movies based on Steamboat Willie is that...... People hate Disney. It's a fucked up, weird corporation. It has strayed so far away from the original vision of Walt Disney, and has created such a media conglomerate that people are mad and they are lashing out

I don’t like these movies but I gotta say if/when this happens to the princesses, THAT could be lit. Jasmine assassinates Jafar thriller could go hard

11:47 up until this point, I completely forgot this movie was about Mickey. Seriously, I was actually confused for a split second on why he was here

FOUR TODDBOYA VIDEOS IN ONE MONTH? LETS GOOOOOOO

Why did this horror movie go the Blood and Honey route of making Mickey Mouse a guy in a bad Halloween mask? Look, since its the black and white version of Mickey from the 1930s cartoons, why not do something similar to Bendy and the Ink Machine? Use some CGI (good CGI) and make Mickey into a living cartoon character that kills people. The story can be...oh, some former Disney animators decided to explore an abandoned theme park location and found an old tape containing lost Mickey Mouse cartoons. They play it but it turned out the tape is cursed and they unleashed an evil version of Mickey Mouse who kills people, so now they have to get him back into the tape and destroy it. Basically, its The Ring mixed with Abandoned by Disney and sprinkled with Bendy and the Ink Machine, its not perfect but its way better than having your scary cartoon character just be a guy in a mask. At the very least my idea is more imaginative

I will at least add this, for folks who don't know. As a weird cartoon nerd, and media nerd in general, the film fucked up in terms of just solely sourcing from public domain with that media shrine the killer has.

While, yes, stuff like Frankenstein: or The Modern Prometheus, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Steamboat Willie are Public domain, the specific posters they used are from films that are not, and will not be for some time. Karloff's Frankenstein isn't for another two years, the Garland Oz for ten years, and Disney's Alice is gonna take the longest due to being released in 1951.

Not paying note to the blatant Art the Clown mask on the bottom shelf because I don't have to spell that out, the other big one is Woody Woodpecker. The character will not even be close to PD until 2036, with one short of his being PD at best, and it's not Private Eye Pooch.

Let alone the fact that early trailers for this film had a 3D model of Mickey in it that was stolen from a modern day mobile game, and this became a lawsuit magnet.
