Absolutely spot on. You have nailed it. As a USB user from my T8 into my DAC, I fully agree with your findings and reasoning. When I do upgrade - and we all have that constant urge - it will be to a better DAC so that the T8's data can sound even better.

Hello Jay, your review is in a class of its own. I love the straight talking. Thanks. I was about to buy the T8 after my Naim unit died, but then i saw the T10 and did not hesitate. Its the large screen that is worth the extra money, because i can read what’s playing from the listening position. Initially i did not want any screen at all, but because you have full dimming control of the screen, it is easy to make it unobtrusive and very convenient and therefore can sometimes free up your iPad. Just to test the USB connection, i used a standard cable with awful results, so rushed off to get a high quality cable, it is so very important. I decided on the Eversolo because of all the connectivity options. I am using USB to the DAC, coaxial for the RME headphone amp and the optical for the Bluetooth transmitter so i will have the option to transfer classical music to the Bluetooth headphones to move around. I did have had some problems with Qobuz Connect subsequently resolved, but i am pretty sure that the problem was on the Qobuz side. It played perfectly from the built-in Qobuz in the T10. The interface is so easy to use and it seems that the engineers have thought of everything. Importantly for me, i could dim the power button to just 10% so that it is not annoying when the unit is switched off. I have only had it a week but very happy with it.

Also, as you are an Ed Meitner fan. Ed says that the clock needs to be as close to the DAC stage as possible to get the full effect. External clocks lose the timing benefits the farther the run. I have his DA2i, so it's USB for me. T8 is fine for me.

Room correction works great for headphone/iem systems, and specially for Multichannel with Multisubs Home Theater systems. PEQ is the traditional way to "custom" the frequency range and levels of two channel hifi to the listener's preference. Jay is completely correct in emphasizing the importance of proper room treatment in order to maximize the potential of your listening experience.
For me, the software that is truly useful for two channel systems is upsampling and filters the music files (streamed or downloaded into storage) via HQ Player software, Audionirvana, or a dedicated upscaler such as Chord's Hugo M Scaler. A very good transport such as the T8 is indeed desirable. However, a laptop with HQ player software (you have to also do your own "tweaking of parameters and filters), and a great dac will deliver superior sonics than a T8 and a separate dac below $2K.
