"Gaol" is indeed pronounced "jail," it's just an early 18th century spelling.

One of the scariest moments in Bloodborne for me was my first encounter with the celestial emissaries in the Forbidden Woods. I know they're just goofy little guys, but their contrast to everything that had come before was so shocking to me that my brain just went into full panic mode lol.

"Halfway between flesh and an idea" is the best way i've ever heard cosmic horror described, what an amazing video

Mythical refresh

The fact that the Hunter will likely have a decent amount of insight by the time we are introduced to Lanterns adds another layer to them, cuz that Frenzy will just build up even quicker making them so much more dangerous. Absolute banger enemy in every way.

Perhaps it was already mentionned, but to add to the horror of the winter lanterns, if you look closely at their heads, they are made of Messengers. Yup, the monster that makes you shiver the most in that game is consituted by the two things you have the most trust in. Tiny messengers and gentle doll.

the brain of mensis bit always really gets to me cause the absolute darkness makes it feel like you've actually broken through the boundaries of the game, like a big glitch or something where the elevator escaped the map.

21:13 Wanna feel how terrifying the Mad Ones can be?
Find them in a Cursed Fetid Chalice Dungeon at Depth 5 and you'll have nightmares 😢

The scariest parts are the times when there's nothing happening, when the hallways are empty.
It's easier to deal with things when you're the hunter, when there's a target right in front of you.
When you aren't hunting, you're hunted. And that's *terrifying*.

I think the Winter Lantern's song is potentially how the Hunter's human(ish) brain is misinterpreting the inhuman speech of the Lantern. With most things in the game we can gain enough Insight to understand at least part of it, but the Lanterns might just be too much for us; hence the Frenzy buildup. I wonder if the newborn Great One the Hunter could become can understand it...

Amazing how the fanbase for this game is still going strong.

Truly one of a kind.

damn it, now I have to go do another full playthrough for like the 15th time. great video as always

I was going to say something about my favorite enemy design, but. for some reason I think everyone can probably tell (although I love Ebrietas and Kos in a similar way)... I just love the entire fishing hamlet so much, I love nautical horror, I love the connection between the sea and the eldritch and unknowable, it's such a fascinating theme to me and I love the way Bloodborne uses it :)

I‘d inject this game straight into my veins if I could, same with this video

Cainhurst Vilebloods for life!

Another HP lovecraft story that inspired bloodborne is the shadow out of time

It's maybe a little on the nose, but everything about the Gascoigne fight really cements what is perfect about Bloodborne's horror. He's the first real hunter enemy you face, hitting you with what it must be like to be on the other side of the saw blade; then he erupts into his beast form and you're offered a horrible possible end for your own character if things go awry. And that's just the fight itself, everything leading up to that (summoning him for Cleric Beast so you think of him as a friend, the entirety of his story with his daughter and wife, Eileen talking about hunting hunters) just hammers it home further that this was a "good" man now too far gone down the exact path you're treading

Upper Cathedral Ward is a 10/10 area, that place legit made me shat my pants

“Not reliant on jumpscares.”

Werewolf in old Yharnam behind the door,
Werewolf in the upper cathedral ward behind the window when you’re distracted by the brain sucker behind the locked door,
Hag that chases after you before Ludwig:

“Allow us to introduce ourselves.”
