No AI was used in the visuals, voice, thumbnail or music in this film. Everything was made by real people: a 3D animator, an illustrator, an editor and Michael on narration. Each episode takes weeks to produce. If you have suggestions for improvements, please let me know your feedback in the comments.

UPDATE since we finished this film:  Reports confirmed 400 hectares in the central ecological zone had already started being cleared, for a five-star tourist complex.

Lake Baikal is the deepest lake on Earth. It holds around 20% of all the unfrozen fresh water on the planet's surface. And right now, piece by piece, it's being sold off.

In this video, we descend through the whole lake, layer by layer, to find out what's actually at the bottom. Ice two metres thick you can drive a truck across. A creature smaller than a grain of rice that filters the entire lake. The only seal on Earth that lives its whole life in fresh water, 2,000km from the nearest ocean. A fish that melts in the sun. And a lake floor where methane freezes into ice that burns when you warm it.

Then we get to the part almost nobody is covering. In December 2025, Russia rewrote the law that had protected Baikal since 1999. Next door, China is running short of fresh water and has been drawing pipeline maps to Baikal for years.

This is the story of how the oldest, deepest lake in the world quietly went up for sale.
