Freddie said he didn't want be a rock star, he wanted to be a legend. Mission accomplished!!

He was once asked which instrument he most enjoyed playing he replied, "the audience darling, the audience" he was so up for it.

"Microphone in one hand, 70,000 people in the other"

Remember, this is NOT a Queem concert, it’s Live Aid. Many bands played, so a good % of the fans came to see someone else.  Yet, EVERYONE knew the songs, lyrics and got completely into it. Amazing!

It has been said that on this day for 20 minutes, another Queen ruled in the United Kingdom.

This is a perfect example of a man being equal to the moment and transforming it.
God rest his soul.

Every band had 20 minutes. Queen rehearsed for a week with big clocks in front of them, to hone their set down to the second. Freddie had a throat infection and had been advised by his doctor not to perform -- what you just saw and heard was Freddie on a bad day. Now you know why this set is considered to be the best live rock performance of all time.

You can't help but get slightly teary eyed watching Freddie, beautiful voice, crowd control, this man had it all, they never be another Freddie ever

You know the band is special when the guitarist's side hustle is being a Doctor of astrophysics and senior fellow of Imperial College 😳

No massive  lightshow or pyrotechnics, no costume changes, backup dancers or autotune.  Just four masterful musicians practicing their craft and 40 years later still blowing people's minds.

I was 18 years old when this happened. I was stationed in Germany with the US Army at the time and I had tickets to go. In March 1985, I was transferred to Ft. Knox, Kentucky. I immediately put in for 2 week's leave to make sure I could attend the concert. Fortunately, my commanding officer granted me the leave request. Three days before the concert, I caught a military hop to London. Most epically enjoyable time in my life...being 50 feet from the stage!

70,000 people in a stadium, millions watching on TV £150million raised for charity (eye watering money at the time). All for strangers starving on another continent. How mighty we were once.

One thing to remember no-one bought a ticket to see Queen. All tickets were sold before queen joined the show but within 1 song they were all queen fans. 1 billion saw this show on TV.

I am 60 years old and I can honestly say that sitting on my living room floor, watching this live, at 19 years old.. was the greatest musical experience of my life. And today... chills!

The other bands pretty much just looked at it like we have x minutes, we'll play these 4 songs, boom.  Queen actually crafted a miniature show to fill the space. They killed it.

What makes this even more awesome was the audience participation. None of those arms holding up cellphones to record. Everybody back then lives at the moment to enjoy all performances.

Doesn’t matter how many times I see this, I always get goosebumps, and it always makes me smile, bless Freddie’s soul.

The "microphone stick" wasn't just from this concert - it was a staple for Freddie's live performances.

For a guy who went against doctor’s orders and performed anyway, I’d say he did ok. Elton John saw the set from backstage and reportedly said, “Now, how do you follow that?”

Freddie died way too soon. We were robbed of so many more years of amazing rock. SO we have to make sure to appreciate what he and Queen gave us. RIP FM.
