If you hear a song 56 years later and still know the words you know it was a good song.

One of the advantages that FM radio had over streaming is that we had to wait for our favorite songs to be played. So we would listen to the radio all day which exposed us to many other songs and artist that we might not have heard of otherwise.

I can see in my mind: Paul Newman riding around on a bicycle with 'Raindrops' playing. Such a great scene.

Bridge was such a comfort to our war weary souls

The entire album "Bridge Over Troubled Water" is a masterpiece.

What so many people who didn't grow up with 70s music simply can't comprehend, is that ALL types of music were popular in the 70s. The Beatles were popular, Barbra Streisand was popular (and in fact had the #1 song of the year in 1974, with"The Way We Were"), Elton John. We had Rod Stewart at the top, we had the Rolling Stones at the top, we had Led Zeppelin, Three Dog Night and the Doobie Brothers at the top. But we also had Country Western songs at the top, and plenty of mellow ballads at the top, as well as "story songs" like One Tin Soldier, Shannon and Billy Don't Be a Hero at the top.

Radio stations back then weren't limited to one type of music. We would hear all different types of songs and if a song is good, no matter what genre it is, or if it's fast or if it's slow or if it's metal or if it's a ballad, it's a good song. We knew so much more about the whole musical market out there that even if we didn't listen to a particular artist a lot, we at least knew who they were and what type of music they produced on the whole.

Even artists explored different types of songs within their own albums.

One thing that sets 70s music apart is actual talent, and live instruments. There was no auto tune, you had guitar players and keyboard players and amazing drummers. The music being put out today has a lot of synthesized "music" that just doesn't make it very memorable, or make it stand out from other songs.

If you often feel that so much of today's music sounds so similar, you would be very correct, because the range of music being put out in this generation, is so limited. I'm not going to put it down, music evolves, I simply feel sad for people who only grow up listening to one type of music.

You know that one of the most popular type of reactors to watch are younger generations discovering the amazing music of the older generations, because they've never heard so much creativity and variety . Just sayin'.

There is still a fairly variety of types of music being produced, but your mind has to be open to it and sometimes you have to seek it out. If you're only listening to the top 20 songs on Spotify and following artists who have a huge hit one day and are never heard from again, well you're just missing out (and I don't mean you personally, I mean you collectively).

Best wishes for continued success with your channel.

Songs like Bride Over Troubled Water hit the top of the charts because our generation were losing friends and family to Vietnam, we needed solace.

You have to remember…we were kids, and had experienced war, our parents told us of war, our grandparents told us of war and the Great Depression….coming out of the Korean War and the Vietnam war, all we wanted, everyone, was peace…love…freedom…and hope…music gave us this…we were over all the dark and negative…radio was rampant because of cars…you could listen to music all the time…and I know to me all music was good and if you didn’t like a song you listened till it was over or changed stations…we were the first generation that had unlimited access to music 24/7…I still remember when MTV came out…❤

Bridge Over Troubled Water is one of the best songs ever written and we knew it at the time. HUGE HIT.

"Bridge" was an anthem of a deeply troubled year: massive war protests, the Kent State shooting and more. It was a welcome peace offering that spoke to a lot of people.

The Burt Bacharach rabbit hole is worth the journey. Deceptively simple, but actually brilliant and sophisticated.

70s is the last great music era that had EVERY genre of music on the radio and the charts including INSTRUMENTAL hits! Incredible

I don't regret growing up in the 1960s and 1970s.

'Bridge Over Troubled Water' is not only one of the best songs of 1970, or the entire 70s, it's simply one of the greatest songs ever recorded.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many people younger than me just didn’t go through the radio era and naturally hear all the classics growing up. Edit: I’m 40 btw.

"Raindrops keep fallin' on my head".  My parents used to sing that to me when I was little when it started raining outside.

For anyone these songs are new for- "American Woman" isn't about a woman, it's about the country.

I’m 75.   Welcome to my music.  🥰🥰🥰🥰

I am 71 and sitting here crying.Karen Carpenter was so beautiful in so many ways. She died of Anorexia Nervosa.Outstanding voice. She was so young.🥲🙁

"Bridge over trouble water" is one of those songs that, doesn't matter the context, I cried every time I listen to it
