I remember an interview with one of the creators of Chew. I don't remember the exact quote but it ran along the lines of "We just put out one of the best selling, critically acclaimed comics of all time, and yet no one will give us the time of day trying to launch any new projects."

The scariest part of Chew isn't even the murder cases, it's the thought of being sentenced to an eternity of eating raw beets just to survive

The mental fortitude on Savoy for having the same ability but still managing have a hulking physique.

I can't even imagine how bad Hollywood would completely butcher this comic if they ever tried to adapt it into film or a tv series.

25:49 S for Savoy, L for the lady:
S: what's happening? why are you doing this?
L: i won't tell you anything. i serve Upyr. he's my master. we're searching for the truth.
S: as do i, my dear.
L: i don't think so. your government is interested in anything but the truth.
S: and i'm not my government. i am my own master.
L: and i'm loyal to Upyr. he's my master.

then she tells the guy to blow them up and he does.

fun fact: the word "upyr" means something like "bastard" in russian but like it sounds kinda fun because nobody really uses this word, it's a little dated. also we used to call vampires this iirc

5:15 one thing i love about this scene is not just how Chu can see all the victims, but also everything else in the soup, from the vegetables, spices, and chicken
After all, do you know just how many ingredients go in a soup? The two pages panel perfectly captures just how overwhelming all those conflicting visions must be

I hope you cover more of Chew, Grief! The story gets 10x wilder with each issue, lmao. The story just keeps upping the ante, it's amazing. Also there's a ton of other weird, interesting food-based superpowers that show up in later issues. This is like the most tame the comic gets, it very quickly goes off the rails after Taster's Choice.

There's also a decent amount of spin-off material, including a 3-part story about a side character and a Chu cameo in a multi-comic-IP crossover with I Hate Fairyland.

We gotta get Grief invested in The Chewniverse, stat!

Hello Grief, this is speaking friends.

0:10 Bless you

It's like almost IZombie in concept. But less zombies

I would DEFINITELY love to see a part 2 or part 3 of the series

Cool video as always grief, hope your doing well man and not pushing yourself too hard!

OH MY GOD YOU'RE REVIEWING CHEW?!?!!

I LOVE THIS COMIC!!

I'm surprised nobody has turned Chew into a TV we in the UK had a detective show with a chef called Pie In the Sky with the late Richard Griffiths starring DI Crabbe
