21:36 Potential Flaws for Metroid Prime 4
Metroid Prime 4 is almost here, so it is the perfect time to look back at every main Metroid game and talk about the one big flaw that holds each of them back. Even the best games in this series have something that frustrates fans, whether it is bad pacing, weird design choices, or story decisions that never sat right with people. In this video, I go through the entire Metroid timeline before Metroid Prime 4 and break down the biggest problem in every entry, from the NES original to Metroid Dread.
We will talk about classics like Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, and Metroid Dread, plus side entries and spin offs like Metroid Prime Pinball, Metroid Prime Hunters, Metroid Other M, Metroid Prime Federation Force, and Metroid Samus Returns. I go into why some of these games are hard to revisit today, how certain mechanics ruin pacing, how linear design and hand holding clash with the Metroid formula, and why Other M’s story and characterization of Samus are still so controversial.
At the end of the video, I also look ahead to Metroid Prime 4 and go over the biggest concerns fans already have. Things like a chatty sidekick, more linear mission design, too much hand holding, fetch quests, and technical limits on Nintendo Switch hardware could all turn into Prime 4’s own “biggest flaw” if they are not handled carefully. If you want a full series recap before Prime 4 drops, and you like deep dives into what works and what does not in Nintendo franchises, this video is for you.
