10:42 Of course it doesn't feel like a police station because it used to be an art museum.

They almost cut “bingo” from RE4R. None of the other lines were hitting so the VA asked to perform Bingo

Playing the OGs on a crt tv made me realized how beautiful the backgrounds are .the games were built on that so I recommend playing them on one

28:51 I dunno why but watching him slowly walk up to see if it will fall down, and then it does, and the two of them just stare at each other for a moment before he checks the ammo in his gun is really funny.

I think of the remakes as their own games. I like them for different reasons to the originals.

Nemesis is actually the longest of the original trilogy for a single play through, the other two are longer because they have two campaigns but they are basically identical anyway especially 1 and nemesis has multiple choices throughout the game, the puzzle answers change, there are different endings and nemesis can turn up at different times so it still has a lot of replay value

Not a single word on tone and narrative, a key part of RE1-4.

My feelings on RE2 Remake are complicated. As a game, it's one of the best survival horror games I've ever played. I really like it on its own merits. It's a ridiculously good game. But I feel like as a remake, it misses so much of what made RE2 Classic so interesting and downright fun to play and replay. I've played both multiple times, and bought each multiple times on multiple platforms, but when I'm really in the mood for RE2 specifically, I reach for Classic every single time. And it isn't nostalgia, I played Classic right before I played RE2make. And yet I listen to Classic's music a lot more, the B-scenario end credits is my ringtone (Especially with Leon's "It's up to us to take out Umbrella" line because hell yeah).

That said, my feelings on RE2make did warm up seeing how RE9 built on what RE2make did specifically. As well as being able to buy Classic on at least some modern platforms, rather than being outright replaced by RE2make. Still feel like it loses a lot from Classic, but I see the vision. It sucks that its DLC, but the classic soundtrack option really boosts the game for me as well (I need RE2 save room music to fuel my will to live). For me RE2make was more of an acquired taste than the fixed camera angles of the classic trilogy were.

I would add just regarding a cut from RE4, the laser hallway actually wasn't removed just on a technicality. They actually re-worked it somewhat and made it fit in a lot better within the Separate Ways expansion with Ada. They also included U3 in here too and I thought they did an incredible job with handling that too.

But the boulder chase though? Oh yeah, that's the one actual significant cut that I know isn't in here and hasn't been re-worked. Almost everything else from the original game was kept and/or re-worked to fit in with the game a lot better.

- JJ no longer whipping out a mini-gun, but instead they get a new weapon
- The Salazar statue no longer chases you, but it does function as a sort of trap/environment hazard
- The sewer section in the castle wherein you're first introduced to the Novistadors is re-worked to large main hall area and even has a sewers/canal section in the Separate Ways expansion

And that's just a very short list of those. It's honestly the most faithful of the remakes right next to RE1 in terms of it keeping a lot of what made the original great, but adding new elements or enhancing the stuff that was initially weaker in the original.

1:48 it’s wild to not play one of the many versions with the aim assist from the Japanese original. After I got the directors cut, I never really went back to the long box version.

The side quests in the RE4 remake are actually fun imo and if you play them you'll often be given new encounters, fights, and sequences that you would otherwise miss. I reccomend playing them through if you skipped them previously.

Sorry, got to correct you about the originals being "less cinematic" than the newer games. Actually, the original games are FAR more cinematic than the current games, which just try way too hard to be "cinematic". The new games use forced gimmicks, such as the scripted move in only one direction (like RE3 remake at the start), or extremely slow paced scripted sections such as the orphanage as Sherry or the orphanage flashback in RE Requiem. Both of these orphanage sections stop the games to a halt, & for speed runners, they are immensely tedious. They are unsettling & creepy at first, but doing it more than twice, the novelty wears off.

The forced move only in one direction is also tedious because you aren't really in control, & you move at a fixed pace so its not like you can just rush through them.

The original games, however, use the language of cinema to create atmosphere, dread & tension. Look at camera angles such as looking through a window as your character walks by. That gives an uneasy voyeuristic feeling. The developers of the original games clearly understood the role a camera plays in creating suspense, atmosphere, & mood.

The newer games also go over the top in some cut scenes or set pieces, like the whole rooftop & car part in RE3 remake. Its like they're trying to shove it in your face how "seriously cinematic" they are, but they don't understand cinematic grammar. RE3 is the biggest offender here.

What I don't like about these newer games are the very sluggish movement speeds, & the terrible aiming. I don't like how you have to stand still & wait for the aiming sight to get smaller to get a better shot. I think its frustrating & annoying.

I personally do not have a problem with tank controls & I struggle to understand why its hard for people to get understand that moving up on the control pad is always forward. I find that the 3D controls in some games to be more awkward. Games where you can run toward the camera to get away from enemies can be awkward for me. Apart from my complaints about the aiming, the newer games feel good control wise.

RE4 remake is the best of the current day remakes (I do like the 2002 remake of the original RE more than the original game), as I think it changed the right things, & expanded upon things. I like the darker, more serious tone, & there is some really unsettling & spooky atmosphere. I still hold the original RE4 in high regard as well.

I hear people say you have to take damage from zombies catching you in the originals, but I've played for years and you can shake off zombies before they actually bite and deal damage. But if you get you get caught by multiple each consecutive grab is harder to shake off, you have to get grabbed at least 3 times in succession to guarantee taking damege. At least in the 2 and 3, original re1 you really have to mesh hard to shake off a single attacker. As usefull as defense items are, the remakes would have benefitted more from the dodge abilities of 3 or 6, just my opinion.

14:08 you can't call people "blinded by nostalgia" when you're talking about remakes, a type of games that literally weaponize the concept of nostalgia

I like all of them but nothing gives me the same mystery horror vibe of Resident evil 1 original and remake, for me they are the best. Every time they release a new one I need to play all of them one by one before.

Yeeeees, that's what I've been saying for ages

I don't understand why they Nemesis'ed up Mr X and Mr X'd up Nemesis

1:25 I'm not sure I understand what you mean, since tank controls are character-relative, pressing up always moves the character forward regardless of the direction they're facing, so there's no need to reorient yourself every time the perspective shifts when transitioning between screens.
The modern control scheme's camera-relative movement is more intuitive but ill-suited for fixed-camera angles, causing players to constantly reorient themselves until they're familiar with the layout of the level, which is what you seem to be complaining about, unless I misunderstood what you were saying.

I'd love to see your take on the "best room" of every Resident Evil. "Best" being up for interpretation (scariest, most fun, most memorable, etc.).

25:57 the laser room is in seperate wayss
