Phoebe Halliwell had some of Charmed’s biggest storylines—so how did she go from my favorite sister to the most frustrating? Let’s revisit all eight seasons and figure out where her character went wrong.
Welcome to For The Archive! I’m Jay Snowdon, and this Phoebe Halliwell deep dive follows her journey from the curious witch who opened the Book of Shadows to the character the show never quite knew what to do with.
We’re talking early Phoebe, her relationships with Prue, Piper and Paige, the Cole Turner romance, becoming Queen of the Underworld, her underused powers, the advice column, and her eventual happy ending with Coop. Did those huge storylines actually help her grow—or just give her more to do?
I love early Phoebe. I love Phoebe and Cole. That’s exactly why her later story frustrates me.
Was Phoebe overhated, or did Charmed waste her potential? And where would you have ended Cole’s story? Tell me in the comments.
Subscribe to For The Archive for more pop-culture commentary and character deep dives. You can also catch my Prue and Paige videos in the Charmed Archive.
Spoilers for all eight seasons of the original Charmed (1998–2006).

Also, I would never trust a man sent by the elders solely on principle.
And justice for Cole. He should have spent a few seasons away, become a better man without Phoebe and for reasons other than her, and then accidentally run into her near the end of the show with then reconciling.
