Lore reason for ig88 doing that is during episode 6 (in legends) it got into the death star 2s systems and started messing with stuff, in the novelization i think it more or less hints at it by talking about how the doors were acting strange. Ig88 essentually wanted to start a droid rebellion but died when the death star 2 blew up.

Thrawns Revenge has to be one of the greatest mods for a game of all time. The level of detail on multiple factions is extremely surreal. I just started a new campaign a few days ago and (after finally understanding the economics and structure score system) ive been having a blast.
