If you're interested, here's the links first for the STOV, and then the little flat pack charcoal starter I mentioned (don't forget to use code "Alex5" for 5% off your STOV order):

Surely for catching fat and grease, you could just put the whole unit in one of those alfoil baking trays!

I’ve had one of these in my troopy for ages. Sits behind the drivers seat, use it almost daily. One of the best bits of kit I take with me for full time travel

2 more panels and that wind deflector becomes a lid!

I love to cook over charcoal, nothing beats the flavour. I'd love to see a review focused on that side of it, with someone used to cooking with charcoal.

Standing the butane gas can in some hot water can make it a little more energetic in cold weather.
Standing the whole BBQ in a disposable aluminium baking tray will catch all the juice oozing out the bottom. They are cheap, weigh next to nothing, can be washed if you're desperate and are handy addition to the camping box in their own right.

I love this for off roading it's compact efficient and great value for money

Here is a cooking tip for you Alex. It is very difficult to cook chicken pieces on a BBQ as they are nearly always burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. So ya need to add some pressure to your cooking and in this idea I'd use a full chicken over separate chicken pieces but it probably works just as well though I have never tried it. Grab a full chook and cut it down the breast bone and flatten your chook, slide some butter up under the skin, baste it with seasoning Tom Yum works well. lay the chicken bone side down on the BBQ plate top the chook with baking paper, al foil and something heavy (Toolbox or concrete slab) cook for 12 minutes, turn over and repeat the steps cook for a further 8 minutes. Remove the chook from the heat and squeeze over a fresh lime, cut to portion and serve.

I used to carry a separate bbq when camping 🏕️ then I got a cast iron steak skillet 🍳 and used that on my gas stove. Then a few years ago I welded up a bbq plate out of 10 mm steel plate it does double duty as a jack base plate on soft ground.

If the wind guard had a front panel with a thermometer, and a lid with an adjustable vent, it would still flat pack and you would have your hood.

FYI - The Propane content in the ProFuel canisters is actually 1% more than the JetBoil Jetpower!

I have had one of these for about 2 years. I predominately use the charcoal basket for cooking,  but also worked out the jet boil cannisters are the way to go. I really like the Stov. It suits my camping and is easy to dismantle and assemble when you learn how. I bought a hard case to keep the Stov parts and basket all in the same case. In my opinion its a great bit of kit.

I love the idea of a hybrid setup, being able to use different fuels and also use it as a fire pit. Being a solo camper, would work great but unsure about the gas issues you spoke about.

Great video Alex. Your reviews are always very detailed, unbiased and helpful. I used to have a ‘Twig’ stove when I was still tent camping and it folded up flat like the Stov into a little square. Only good for sitting a kettle or frying pan on the top, but worked well. Wood burning only though. At least the Stov has options.

Fantastic honest assessment as usual.
That is a great bit of kit, you could also put the Stov inside some Aluminium foil, either a tray or a sheet.
Great that it is dual fuel, looks better suited to smaller groups/couples.
Keep up the awesome work

Great review with good tips. Thanks!

The obvious competitor to the Stov for car camping is the Nomadiq but very different pros and cons. It would be make for an interesting cook off comparison. I’m wondering if the gas bottle issue is one that is common to all camping gas bbqs or whether this is more specific to the Stov.

Looks remarkably similar to the German Skotti Grill.................great video!

If you like cooking with charcoal, try the Darche 450xl firepit. Can cook on the grill, put a skillet on it, or a camp oven. It also packs flat.

Glad you didn't get sick from throwing ya steak on the ground😅
