I’ve got an 18 year old bottle of mixed spices thats been on every camping trip with me and still never been opened…

I'm an old codger and could be accused of never throwing out anything in my life. I still use my 52 year old Trangia 25. I've upgraded a few pieces to Duossal and non-stick over the years but I still have all the original bits. I have a FRED (you either love or loathe them) and Victorinox Camper from the 70s. My shovel is a Soviet era one from Ukraine. Doesn't fold but solid enough to lop branches. My absolute oldest camping item is an I. Wilson knife that belonged to my grandfather and dates from 1891-1919. It still lives in my camp kitchen box.

Engel Fridge.  Bought it for my wifes 40th.  It’s 30 years old and hasn’t missed a beat.

Does a husband count? I found him about 37 years ago & he’s very handy & useful to take camping 😆
I’ve a steel spike that has a swivel loop for a frying pan or pot & a swivel hook for hanging a billy,  that I bought off a blacksmith around 1988. It gets whacked in the ground at any campsite that allows ground fires 🔥

Hello Camping friends. Just a tip for any billy . With a shifting spanner, you can bend the metal handle so it will touch the lid or top just enough so it will require presser to fold down the sides , this will keep the handle out of the hot part of the fire and cost is Zero.
Have a great time next time you get out in the Aussie bush.

My Billy, 36 years old. My pen knife 35 years old. I misplaced the pen knife once for a year, it ended up being in the bottom of an old tackle box and had been soaking in salt water. It was unrecognisable as a knife, just old rusty ingot. I cleaned it up and it ended up being like new….. still sharp, and I’ve never sharpened it- ever!

40 year old cast iron skillet, WWII folding shovel, campfire irons from old school cattle drives.

I love my Engel. It’s almost 20 years old. Waited about 5 years to fork out the cash for it but a 2 week trip to Fraser with family and friends who said all you need is tent, fishing rod and a fridge. Lives in my Prado all the time. And when I’m asleep in the back of the car and it cycles I know I’m out bush so straight back to sleep. Can’t think how long I’ve had that cast iron skillet and zebra Billy. I’m sure that was pre 2000. Keep up the awesome work

Oldest and best camping bit of gear my jet boil never go anywhere without it

Two very basic simple folding canvas camp stools from my FIL (now RIP).  They date from 1955. Every time we use them we salute him.

That little aluminum table is the unsung hero of my own setup. Have had mine for close to 20 years now, cost me almost nothing to buy and does not get treated well (has been hit by 2 separate dirtbikes and is still fine). They're cheap and nasty, just not very good, but at the same time they're just the best thing ever. Has become my dedicated cooker table these days.

My Wanderer Cascade 4 tent. At a guess I’ve probably had it for 10-15 years. It’s always been there. Withheld in high wind, rain, high summer heat and cold winters.

The old South African e-tools are really good, I have one.  Having twins I “HAD” to buy a second tool, stumbled across an Ozzie one, and they’re great.   I live in NZ - Trademe $60……

For the cooker, just get one of those telescopic BBQ igniters, put it on a lanyard so you don’t lose it.  Works a treat, and all you really need is the piezo, so if the gas runs out, no sweat

The Drifta Stockton dunny shovel is a quality bit of kit
Not as big as the army shovel and no pick but for $60 or so it's a great tool!
Their milkcrate bag/seat is also one of the best bits of camp gear I've ever owned!! Great Aussie company too

I have a Trak eagle camper that has gone to the moon and back, this was the one that started it all the first dedicated off road camper. I have been in the snow, on the beach in Arnem land, in all parts of Australia, lite,  simple, roomy and real canvas. I have owned this for over 30 years.

7:02 I have a shovel from Aussie disposals, it's Austrian Army Surplus. It doesn't have a pick, and uses a screw lock, however its very nice quality, and only 50 bucks. I rate it. I leave a can of inox mx3 near my storage door and I give the whole screw mechanism a good spray and clean to make sure it lasts and I can lock it without much fuss.

My Dad bought a  second hand Engel  in 1978, it was 8 years old when he got it ie made in 1970 it still gets used  to this day, not often but it makes a good beer fridge.

I have a collapsible camp cupboard that is a 1970 original.  Paisley cover and all.  My mum owned it before I was born.  We still use it as a drying rack and pot/plate shelf for longer camps as the outer cover is torn so not insect proof any more.   It's awesome

I might be a bit later to the party, but I fully agree on the cheap shovels been basically rubbish. I got a Chinese military shovel (WJQ-308) at least 10 years ago and that been a good bit of kit. The locking mechanism is sturdy and feature packed!
